CPViewier visible during games - Mamewah
« on: November 27, 2005, 07:00:39 pm »
I am using CPViewer with CPVW from JCrouse and it is up and running.

Does it only allow the screen to be viewed BEFORE a game is launched?

I would like the help screen to be visable while a game is running.

I am using the lastest version of Mamewah (prior to the Beta).

Thanks

I presume he means the help screen displayed if you press a certain key/button/combo. As far as I know, CPViewer/CPVW doesn't support this but Johnny5 does (although not actually worked out how to do it yet/read the manual !).

CPViewer will not do what you want natively. You can modify the ahk script that Howard and the boys are using for Johnny5 if you want to take a crack at it. I had it working at one point in time.

I have continuously had timing problems using the AHK with J5.  I don't know how TigerHeli, HowardCasto, and the rest got it to work.  Mine continually gets out of sync.  I am using method five mentioned by Tiger Heli.

Ya what I meant was that it would be visable only when the "help" key was pressed.

Right now I have the "H" key setup to launch the viewer.

The viewer launches when I am in Mamewah looking at my game list.
Once I launch the game, I would like to be able to launch the viewer again.

Once you're in a game and then "die" you usually say "What controls do I use again"

That is what I was looking for...
I was hoping CPViewer could do that, have not had any luck getting Johnny5 working.

Ok, I have managed to get Johnny 5, CPViewer and CPVW working with the AHK script but had timing issues and such and though I haven't got back to it to try yet I believe the solution is simply to NOT have your viewer launch with the Pause button.  Leave the Pause and Help buttons separate.  If you do this you ought to be able to use CPVW to view your panel in game with a modified AHK script and avoid timing issues.  A little more tedious but it sounds like you are using the keyboard anyway so its worth a try.  As an added bonus under this method you can take advantage of the screen dimming function when Pause is pressed and not have to worry about any kind of control panel image burn-in.

Thanks BuZz880,

I tried getting Johnny5 to work the last few days.
I  am getting it to launch, then there is a black screen and text "No entry found".
It then shows the layout, but the labels do not show up at all.  :(

Something happened and all of my MW ini files get reset!
Not sure what happened there.

I may go back to CPViewer and use an AHK like BuZz880 suggested.

I would also like to keep the PAUSE and HELP keys seperate.
Let me know if you get that working..

Thanks

It seems to me, (and Minwah would know for sure) the Mamewah deletion of ini files thing occurs when you accidentally hang one instance of Mamewah and try to launch another.  You may not even know ytou are doing this unfortunately.

The latest Mamewah beta does seem to have a fix for this in that it makes a backup of any ini files it replaces.  I tested it once and it seems to work well.  I was not able to recreate the exact situation with this new version either and I think thats a good thing.

Personally as an added degree of safety I now back up all my lst, ini, cfg and bat files for all my arcade and console emus.  It runs daily.

Care to share how you do this? Is it a bat file or something?

Absolutely, I am using Cobian Backup because it is free and it works... I backup to a Network drive but it can do whatever/wherever you want.  Its a pretty nice program, easy to find in Google.  I just tell it what extensions to look for.  It does the ini's daily and less often does an incremental of everything which takes forever (due to my crappy DNS-120 network drive) but at least it gets done.

That said, you certainly could schedule a bat file or something to do pretty much the same thing.
