Couple of Terminator 2 questions.. (WG25k7197)
« on: November 23, 2005, 10:38:33 am »
Hiya there... Okie dokie, question 1 (not monitor related, but I feel its pointless making a new thread so);
I was inspecting the machine and found that a ground jumper wire had shaken itself loose and was found in the bottom of the cabinet, looking at the schematic in the manual I found this had come off the power supply - FC ground (I think it was FC??) and +5v 11a were supposed to be jumpered with this wire. I cant access this to put it back currently (the boards slide out and the machine isnt in a position for doing so), but do you have any idea what kind of problems this wire being missing could cause?

question 2:
I'm still having the weird colour problem with the monitor - sometimes it'll be all red, sometimes all another colour, sometimes it'll start up with all of them missing and just grey/black showing until you turn it off (possible brightness problem I was thinking???!) I thought this because I know that the flyback controls the voltages for both brightness AND focus - and whenever the screen is all but grey/black, the focus is *way* outta whack.. Possible flyback problem here?

Note: I really wish I had a spare chassis I could throw into this thing and find out once and for all whether that is the source of these problems... sigh

1. The jumper goes from the "FG" (field/frame/earth ground) to the "Com" (common) terminals. If you were to jumper the FG to the +5 volts (or any of the voltage outputs) you would immediately damage your power supply.

2. Has this monitor been recently capkitted? If not please do so now before proceding further. If it has, have you examined the main monitor board for bad solder joints (well-known problem). Remember that on this chassis (and others of the k7000 series) the contrast control in particular and sometimes the brightness control affect focus. It can even cause some color horizontal streaking/smearing.

Make sure you remembered to plug the degausser coil back into it's connector on the main monitor board each time you replace the board after working on it.

I thought the same thing about the power supply (Thanks for reminding me, it was FG =)) But the diagram in the manual shows a different thing ??

About the monitor, not yet but soon... School is taking up a large amount of my time for the moment :/. Is there any particular reason that the contrast control/brightness control would fail? It's odd, because when the machine boots normally the brightness and focus are fine.. It's only when it has its odd moments...

And thanks I'll remember about the degaussing coil!

Whoa----if that picture came out of the manual, then the manual is wrong! Williams was always screwing up the manuals and there'd usually be a few errors like this.

Williams printed the manuals for their (then) Midway division.

Usually later on in the production run of a particular machine, Williams would either send out an Addendum bulletin to operators who filled out a warranty card or if the machine was still in production include the addendum in the manuals package.

Ah! Good thing you corrected me then =) Yep I just took that picture out of the manual I have for Terminator 2 myself.. you'd think they would take care these kinds of things didnt happen, I'd imagine they've been sued for it at least once..
