I've got the $$$ set aside, but didn't get the clearance from the wife to spend it before it was too late to pre-order. If / When I get one I'll gladly review it.

I stood in line at best buy for almost 15 hours to snag 2 of them, well actually my brother got one and so did I.  However the bad thing is that ones on ebay right now and the other ones a christmas present for my boyfriend so I can't even open it.  It's driving me crazy.  But if anyones looking for one I can give you the link to my ebay auction.

alot of reports of thr system being unstable. lots of videos and screenshots of crashed and frozen xbox360's with default settings for games..
someone pushed a little to hard to squeeze this one out for the holidays possibly.

Someone on slahdot had a good point about that.

"LOTS of instability.
VERY unstable"

There's reports from some what? 10 people with issues?
There's hundreds of thousands of the units out in the wild now.

It could easily have been due to a manufacturing defect with one batch.

The thing I don't get is why the kiosk ones haven;t overheated then.  They are in a cabinet and hardly get a rest, especially on weekends.

Reading around it seems more like a power supply problem.  Bad power supplies from one of the plants.  I had a bad PS on my computer once and it would still run for a while but error and crash after just a while.  Hopefully that is the problem.  Easy one to fix.

Haven't most system launches started out with stuff like this?  Well, not exactly this but problems I mean.  We usually don't see them since they used to launch in Japan first and then fixed here months later.
Next I'll be on fries, and that's when the big money starts rolling in.

They have been crashing at some of the kiosks.
There was a story on xbox-scene a week or so ago about it.

I've had mine for over a week. It was working great and I recommended everyone to get one the whole time--- until today...

It went all screwy and eventually overheated.

Curious in some pictures? Sure why not ..

The worst part of this is, it's not one of those "either it works or it doesn't" things. Mine worked great for probably 200+ hours, and then suddenly decided to crap out on me today during my lunch break.

Oh well, it was free... guess I can't really complain.

I should make a list of people who are clearly clueless and / or not getting any sex or an xbox 360  ;D

In reality if you payed attention to the toys I've sold here; you'd have a pretty good idea that I spend $ like a mad man. This past month I'd managed to build a pair of HTPC  computers, and began buying for a new home theatre as well. At some point you have to run some of the expenses by the spouse or risk ending up a lonely arcade/video/audio geek.  ;)

Try clunking the cartridge as you push it down. If that doesn't work, blow on the connectors.

What, disks?! See, that's why it's failing, there's not a bunch of stupid tricks to get it going like the ol' NES.

Ill definetly pick one up now, albeit after the price falls signifigantly, if not just to play this and make a dedicated cab for it.
the vector graphics must look insane in hi-def.

Did they change anything from the Xbox version?

Used to play the heck out of that game. It is definitely one of the greatest modern old school arcade games to have never been in the arcade made in a long time. :)

Free or not... that really sucks.  I've been reading a lot of articles about problems with the 360.  I mean, I know that you only hear about things when there are problems... but there seems to be a LOT of trouble with the first batch of 360's... not a good sign.

Picked up mine early Tuesday morning.  Only ten other people came to get their Xbox 360s.  Mine so far has worked great.  The only problems I have had is with the accessories.  The Play and Charge kit I got wouldn't charge the battery and I bought a spare wireless controller that had a faulty D-pad.

yeah there is a definitely a few different things wrong with them. i know a number of people who have complained about a yellow light on the power supply. half the time a a good contact cleaning will fix it up. once someone tried that, and his 360 literally started to fry. i'm starting to think an extenal power supply isn't a good idea when you have to feed like 6 different voltages to the 360.

not to mention it sounds like someone has either been overclocking the GPUS, or someone forgot to give it sufficient cooling.

for the tv... .there is a picture of it before the 360 crapped out here. it's a toshiba 46" DLP.

I got mine the 22nd and have been playing it about 6-8 hours a day since then.  No problems yet with mine.  I've got it sitting on a speaker shelf with a lot of space around it and the power supply is up off the floor on a shelf as well, and the console itself hasn't even gotten that hot.  The air coming out will cook a meal though.

I really like the interface and the wireless controllers.  I like the feel of the controller a lot better than the Xbox regular and S controllers.  Being able to turn on the system with the controller is kind of nice as well.

Graphically, everything looks great on my HD LCD.  No matter what you've read, it is a huge step up from the PS2 and Xbox.

Games I got:  CoD2, PDZ, Kameo, Madden, NHL2K6, Tiger Woods 06, Condemned, PGR3, and FIFA06.

Madden is easily the most disappointing game out of the bunch.  While it looks pretty nice, the gameplay and overall feel is lacking what the Madden games usually have.  It feels unpolished and like something big is missing.  My brother and I play sports games together all the time and we were both seriously disappointed in this one.

PGR3 looks amazing and plays great.  I suck at it though.  Online via Live is nice too.  You can watch other people's races live also.

CoD2, PDZ and Condemned are the best of the bunch so far for me.  Condemned will scare the hell out of you playing at night with 5.1 surround on.  PDZ and CoD2 are both FPS games but couldn't be more different in style, gameplay, and controls.  I can't decide which I like better yet.

SmashTV just went up on Live as well. :)  Gauntlet and Joust were available at launch.

All in all, so far I am happy I got one and it's working.

Yup, me too.  I only buy consoles when they are last-generation, and when modding tools are mature and cheap, and allow me to play all those neat Japanese titles that I can only find at Lik-Sang instead of the crap that's on store shelves locally.

Bring on the $50 Xbox and PS2s!  ;D

I totally agree.  I can't wait to pick up another Xbox for $50 or so and mod it.  I've been meaning to make an HTPC for almost a year now, but I'm just going to use a modded xbox.  Throw in a nice large hard drive and a $2 fan mod and I'll be good to go.

Hey, I just got an Xbox and I'm thinking of modding it to turn it into a HTPC too but I've noticed that it takes a really long time to load CD's to the Hard Drive right now.  Will modding it improve the speed at which it takes to load movies and games onto a Hard Drive?  Or is there a way to put the Hard Drive into my PC to load stuff to it similar to the way WinHiip allows you to load PS2 games onto your HardDrive for PS2.

You don't need to load anything onto the Xbox's hard drive. You can stream everything to it over a network from your PC. :)

If you do choose to put the files directly to it though... You can, and it is definitely quicker transfering from your PC than it is ripping directly to the Xbox.

FTP to the Xbox... its much easier and faster than swapping CDs.

And yeah, you dont even have to put stuff on the hard drive if you have it on a networked computer.  I prefer to have my stuff on my xbox however... just personal preference

Did they change anything from the Xbox version?

Used to play the heck out of that game. It is definitely one of the greatest modern old school arcade games to have never been in the arcade made in a long time. :)

Yeah, problem is i want it stand alone :(

Ive wanted that FOREVER and cant ever find..

It is in Project Gotham Racing 2. Just go up to the arcade machine in the garage.

I got one after waiting in line for a few hours, since my preorder isn't set to arrive until the fourth week of December. So far I haven't had any problems (knock on wood). I'm kind of torn. I think the system is great on the whole, and the only complaint I have with the unit is that the fan is very loud. The games are good and there are things in each that let you know we're in the next generation, but I'm not floored by the games. However, that was the case for me with the Xbox launch too (I liked Halo but I wasn't insane about it like others were).

So far I've spent the majority of my playtime on Perfect Dark Zero, and I'm really enjoying the game. The multiplayer can't compare to Halo 2's though. The online features are really nice for Xbox Live, whether you're in the game or in the dashboard. The controllers are great.

I'm having fun and I know I'm really going to like it when Full Auto and Gears of War are released, but for those who don't have it don't go into a mad scramble for it. Wait until it's widely available and the cost goes down. There are a ton of good games recently released for the old generation that'll keep you plenty busy until these are back in stock after the holidays.

Right now I give it a 7.5 out of 10 but that number will be going up for me when more games are released, particularly Full Auto and Gears of War.

You ain't gonna see a $50 Xbox.  MS is still losing money on that hardware.  They have no reason to lower prices considering the it would only mean losing even more money.  At this point there's just not enough reason to try to grow the Xbox install base.  They're going to move all their eggs to the 360 basket as soon as possible.

you can get a cheap one.  i got own of the thompson drive ones in august for 60 usd plus 3 games and a 3rd party controller.  they werent selling for the 360 but people will trade in for the next stuff cause they think its better.  sad thing is that we would pay more then the local gamestops and ebgames.

If you intend to mod an xbox you're better off buying one used. If you were thinking of buying one new I would recommend not doing so and instead saving up for the XBOX 360. The new Xbox live features are great, and the chat features are amazing! You can play a game, start a chat room with a friend online and keep playing while you are carrying on a conversation. This could save a lot of money in long distance phone bills if you have a buddy who you talk to and plays games.

And I want to add that Perfect Dark Zero is getting even better as I move forward in the single player campaign. The more I play it the more it reminds me of Goldeneye for the N64, so maybe Rare was able to figure out how to get that winning formula back. I was actually very bored with the original Perfect Dark on the N64, and stopped playing halfway through the game, so this has definitely done a better job of ramping up the interest and excitement. The story is very predictable and kind of a throw-away, but I'm having a blast and I haven't even moved onto the multiplayer yet.

PDZ is definitely a must-own for the system and an awesome game on its own merits.
