Setting up Mortal Kombat 3?
« on: November 19, 2005, 05:58:56 am »
I am a little stumped with this situation.
 My button setup is

  1  2  3
  4  5  6
7

so naturally I want 7 to be run and 2 and 5 to be block.  But when i try to edit the controls for this game, there is no option for p1 button 7.

thank you.

I don't know this, but I THINK (based on MKI & MKII) that only ONE button can be mapped for BLOCK.

You would want your buttons like so:

1 - High Punch
4 - Low Punch
2 - Block
3 - High Kick
6 - Low Kick
7 - Run

Button 5 would not be mapped to anything.

maybe so, but that really isn't my big problem.

I cant figure out a way to get 7 to be Block.  because there is no option for button 7, because there were only 6 buttons in the ...[at this point i realise how stupid I actually am.  I dont need there to be a button 7 in the game option, i just need to press my button 7 when i change the button for run.. soo soo stupid sometime.]

and then for the block  i can just press button 2 and 5 on my cp.

ok problem solved

[mk3]
gamename=Mortal Kombat 3 (rev 2.1)
numPlayers=2
alternating=0
mirrored=1
tilt=0
usesService=0
miscDetails=Mame uses the jamma standard for button numbering and thus all of the mk games are completely off. The games buttons were arranged in a cross pattern with block the center of the 'X' high and low punch on the left and high and low kick on the right respectively. The Run button is placed inthe lower left hand corner, similar to a mamers 'modified neogeo' layout. It is highly reccomended that you write ctrlr files for these games if you intend to play them.
P1NumButtons=6
P1Controls=8-way Joystick+joy8way
P1_BUTTON1=High Punch
P1_BUTTON2=Block     <---press your button 7 here
P1_BUTTON3=High Kick
P1_BUTTON4=Low Punch
P1_BUTTON5=Low Kick
P1_BUTTON6=Run
P1_JOYSTICK_UP=Jump
P1_JOYSTICK_DOWN=Duck
P1_JOYSTICK_LEFT=Move Left
P1_JOYSTICK_RIGHT=Move Right

So in the ingame controls menu - change the settings to suit where you want the controls to go.  If you want your button 7 to block then select P1_BUTTON2 in the menu, hit enter and then press button 7.  Your controls are remapped.  Just remember the list of controls in game are the defaults and you can pick any button to perform that function.  Don't look at it like Button1, Button2 like on your panel.
