Mario Bros. Reproduction Cabinet - New Project
« on: November 14, 2005, 07:50:39 pm »
Hey all,
This is my first project.  I decided to buid a mario bros mame arcade cabinet that was completely authentic to the original except the control panel.  You can check out my progress at my blog site: http://mariobrosarcade.blogspot.com/

Feel free to give suggestions/comments/questions.  I may be asking for advice from the community as I move forward.  Thanks,
Tim

Looks good ... although, I would have gone widebody for a MAME cabinet (and I even have a repro overlay for a widebody).

Looks forward to seeing it come together.

Cheers.

Thanks,
I considered going with the widebody, but I just liked the compact look of the standard, since the cabinet is pretty short.  The widebody looked to stocky to me.  Plus my wife will appreciate the extra 6 inches of floor space I don't take up with the cabinet :)

You said you have an control panel overlay for the widebody?  Any chance you could take a high res picture of it for me?  Somebody uploaded one to www.localarcade.com for me, but the colors are all off and the artwork is chipped and incomplete.  Maybe yours is good enough to trace?  Thanks.

I should mention that I believe that my CPO is simply the normal CPO stretched to widebody size (based on some stuff I read on RGVAC), but I'll bet that doesn't matter to you.

I do have some scans I did available, but you'll have to piece them together (the scans are overlapping):

Hope it helps.

Cheers.

Thanks!  This should do just fine.  I'll post my results when I get a chance to mess with it.  You're a livesaver!

subcriminal, darn right they do, I've made good progress already with them.  Working out better than I thought.  They fit together perfectly and I've fixed the color differentiation between the 4 scans, so it looks great.  I'll post some pics soon and load them on localarcade.com,
Thanks again, CheffoJeffo!

Thanks again, CheffoJeffo!

De nada ... just wish I had a bigger scanner to do it in one shot.

Cheers.

Good job! I had a go at it but I suck at cleaning up images! I reckon someone will take it on as a vectorizing job ;)
What are you going to be using as a display? I was going to use my 19" Hantarex and mount it so it I could lift and rotate it but I think I'll go for the biggest TV tube I can fit in there and a chassis kit from here:http://www.8liners.com/datatech/monitor.html to convert it to 15Khz arcade. My Nintendo style cab is a bit wider than standard and only just allows room to rotate a 19 frame.
Unless you're not fussed about vertical games on a horizontal monitor that is.

I'm not too fussy and probably won't allow for rotation.  I have  a 20" tv i want to use, but whenever you power it up it defaults to tv mode, not whatever mode it was on when you last had it on.  That would be a pain to always have to switch tv modes when I want to play, so I guess I still haven't figured it out yet.  I could probably go as big as 23" in my cabinet, so we'll see if I run into any garage sales with tv's in the near future.

Thanks for the compliment on the CPO, i'll show you my 6-button version when I finish it.
