I always thought that the announcement was to be made when you finished the project but personal perceptions differ.  Why announce that you have cut mdf and not yet thought of a name when you can announce your pride and joy with pictures and details.

Just my 2 cents.

A lot of them seem to use it as advice or a building diary along the way. Generally easier to do that as you go than to keep track of it after the fact.
