Outrun
« on: November 16, 2005, 07:48:52 pm »
I rencently won an Outrun (upright) at an auction.  Everything seems to be in great working order, I just have a few questions.

I think I rember that when you crashed, the wheel gave you some feedback, am I correct in this thinking?

Second, is there a power switch somewhere on the game , or you just have to pull the plug?  Also, once unplugged, does the game save the high scores, or do they reset each time?

Thanks for any help you can give, this is my first dedicated cab.  I just need to get some sideart, and ti will be perfect.

The power switch on mine is at the very bottom of the cab on the right side.

There appears to be stuff connected behind the CP.  I'm not sure how how many wires should be going up there, but I think there are only two wires going up to that stuff.

For some reason, there appears to be no switch anywhere on my game.  It is the orignal cab and all, so not sure what is going on. My cab looks like this:

Any other ideas/thoughts would be greta.  I would like it getting restored all the way to working.

Well, I overcame my stupidity, I found the power button.   ::)  Sometimes, I surprise myself.   :-\  Now, to see if my motor is working, or better yet how to fix it.  I went to ebay, and i noticed many/almost all auctions there, they say that they have replaced the steering stuff ($50 value)  Are these things sold somewhere for $50?  Just curious.

Im confused. You powered it up... and.... does the wheel shake when you crash or not?

(You made it sound like you started browsing Ebay instead of testing the machine)

Sorry for the confusion.  When you crash nothing happens.  After playing with the machine for awhile, I went to ebay to check out what they had on the site.  I saw auctions for the entire game, and many of the descriptions said they had just installed a new wheel pack.  Multiple auctions said it was a $50 valuse, so I was wondering about that.  I'm not even sure where you would buy this 50$ kit they talked about.

Hmm, welp, we can help you. You need to post pics of the steering wheel guts. (You don't need to take it apart, just open up the control panel)...

Could be as simple as a broken belt or chain...

Update:  My buddy and I were looking at this and testing some things out.  When you spin the motor is does create voltage, so most likely it is working.  However, when we follow the wires thoughout the machine, it is not plugged into anything.  So we have a dangling 6 pin molex with lock, where does this get plugged into.  Looking in the manual, there is no mention of a place to put it.  If anyone happend to have a picture of thiers, that would be great.  Otherwise, words are always good.

Looking at the manual, maybe we are missing 839-0048 SSR BD DC Motor  Controller

Any idea?

Does anyone know of where you can buy old arcade parts?  I am definetly missing the part where the motor (and it appears) the cabinet fan plug into.  Does anyone know where you could buy this piece of the cabinet?  I have tried searching google and ebay.  It would definetly be something on the bottom of the machine.  However, the manual has seemingly no reference to this piece.

So, if you know where I could get one of these thing, please let me know.  I would be eternally grateful.

Alright, here is a picture of the inside of my cab.  You will see the black line pointing to the connector of the motor (which is just dangling there), and a big black dot where something used to be so it could be plugged in.  There are a couple screw holes from something being there in the past.  I hope this is making sense to everyone.  I'm not really sure what the "part" looks like that should be there, but I'm hoping someone smarter than me around here does.

Thanks,

Chris

hi chris !

i`m not 100% sure but i think the part missing could be this one :

it is a small piece maybe 4" long max...

i`ve this cab and after burner and they both made by sega and both use a motor shaker. these piece work with the pcb and the motor shaker , every time you touch the grass or crash it send a signal for a few seconds to the motor and make the control panel move.

i'm at work but when i go home i will try to take a picture of the inside of my cab and i will let you know for sure if it is that part or not ....

and if it is !!! i've a few part as spair and wont mind to help you ...

That looks like it coulod be it.  I looked in my cab, and there is not a piece like that currently in there.  I'm practiclly shaking with excitement that you may have one, or even an extra.  I can't wait to hear from ya when you get back home.

Take Care,

Chris

What other piece do you thing I'm missing?  I'm looking at your picture, and I'm only seeing the borwn piece we have been talking about.  I seem to be able to match everything else up, but I'm not the most visually observant person in the world.

here a closer look

in this little pcb you have 2 connection one with 2 cables and one with 4 i saw the one with the 2 in your cab , look if you have the one with 4

also i've the part you're missing , i tried it in my cab and it work perfectly , when i disconected the motor wasnt working , so that for sure what you need.

but first let me know if you can found the 4 cables conection coz you will need to plug that into the brown pcb ....

Outstanding.  I do thave the 4 wire plug, double checking, it is the plug i pointed out in the earlier pic above.  ALso, confirming my suspicions, you also plug the fan into this little brown thing, the 2 wire plug.  Those 2 plugs are the only two "loose" connections in the whole thing.

I seem to have everything else, even after a second look.   ;)
