I am trying to upgrade right now, but I am having to problems.

After reading a little bit I think the best approach is to upgrade to
1.62b5 then go 1 at a time til im b8 or whatever is the newest now.

Download & unzip the b5 zipfile, and then download the b8 zipfile and extract into the same folder (overwriting mamewah.exe etc.)

Next run Mamewah and it will create some subfolders to get you started.  It sounds like you need to take a look at the latest config.txt - it should tell you the file structure for layouts among other things.  I expect you just need to rename your .lay file to layout.lay.

thank you minwah.

the exact problem was that i didnt have "hide extensions for know file types" was checked.  so the layout.lay file was actually being called  "layout.lay.lay" heh

thank you

I got 1 more problem i need to work out.  For some reason I cant get the List Generation to display the Game Titles, instead its the filename.  I have read a lot of posts about this but nothing seemed to help.  I am using comand line mame.  I have tried all the different generation methods.  anything I may be missing?
I am going to try auto now....

list_generation_method rom_folder_vs_listxml should work fine for MAME v0.84+.  'auto' should be able to determine the most suitable type also (ie it should come up with the same as the one I mentioned).
