Arcade Art Library Announcements

ANNOUNCEMENT November 30, 2005 6PM
---------------------------------------------------------------

I've been informed by my hosting company that one of my sites (probably The Arcade Art Library) has a script that is consuming too many system resources (too many CPU cycles) and all of my sites may be taken offline if it continues.

I can't say for sure that that 4images software is the cause YET, but I should be able to find out within the next 24 hours. My guess is that it will be the cause. Few of my other sites are as resource intensive.

If it turns out that the AAL is the cause what does this mean for the site? For now, nothing. For the long run... it means that I'm going to have to enable database cacheing on the current software to make it consume less CPU cycles. Because there is a bug in the database cacheing feature, I have avoided it up to this point. Now I will have to enable it, and I will have to troubleshoot it. This will take some time.

If I find it necessary to shut off the site for maintenance it will happen overnight (US Central time) within the next few days and the outage will last only a few hours.

If worse comes to worse, I would simply set up a folder system as a temporary fix while I make the software a little more efficient. CPU time is the issue, rather than bandwidth.

Please PM me with any questions rather than posting them. When I update this announcment again, your post will no longer make any sense.

And absolutely do not panic and go download like crazy. That will just screw me up even more. The content is not going anywhere, even if I have to upgrade to a dedicated server. Anyone with a deep knowledge of mysql and php... feel free to offer your help. I don't know that I'll need it, but you never know.
