Project DE-nouncement, taking cab apart.
« on: November 11, 2005, 11:21:04 pm »
Say Goodbye to Console Mame.   :'( I am going to dissasemble it.  2 of its joysticks and 9 buttons will be used in a cocktail model I am refurbing, the rest of the  parts will be saved. I have a piece of oak that I will cut and stain to use for the top of the lower cabinet part.  The lower portion will become a regular table / stuff-holder.  The CP will be stored.

WHY DISASSEMBLE? It is not used, and room is tight.  My upright is used way more.  The console mame ties up the TV, was on wheels and had to be wheeled to the front of the couch, the coffee table had to be moved.  I am keeping the CP incase I ever have a dedicated room/couch/TV for it to sit in front of.

It was the 1st cab I built and I'll post the progress of its children.  Its parts may spawn many other good things and projects.  It is one of only 10 cabs in the "Other arcade projects" / "Projects that don't fit anywhere else!" section of this site.

  :P :'(

Here is the top I made for it, notice how the cocktail project is holding up the mame console refurb project.  Projects stacked on projects......

The computer for the console mame now has new life too.  I got a desktop-style case and put the computer in it and made it a part of my stereo rack.  It has a network connection - if full of MP3s and my entire digital photo album pics.  Sirius satellite radio will stream well thru it and the audio is plugged into the receiver.

The best part?  I'm finally back on the couch and have push-button access to everything. USB extention with hub will run keyboard, mouse, and two USB playstation-style controllers.   Yes there are SEVERAL emulators on it along with tons of roms (for games I own  ::)).  MAME is still on it but the controls are of course odd.

Next step is to get a decent TV capture card for Tivo-like functions.
