Video card to plug TV into?

I am planning on using a regular 27" TV with RCA video in for my cab.  What is a good and inexpensive video card or adapter to plug into?

I recently bought an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB for $150 AUD (~$110 USD). When you think about it, not so long ago I paid $700 AUD (~$512 USD) for this card so it's quite a bargain and it's still a really good card.

I looked online at this card.  It does lots of fancy things and would be great if I was a die-hard online player or something, but I just need a simple one that lets you plug your TV in.  That's it.  Unless those kind of cards are all the option that is available.

for mame use just get any card that has svhs output (to get composite output from svhs you just short the chroma / Luma, every book I have read says that it will not work, but thats how I have been watching dvd's from my computer on my tv for a couple of years now)

Man, I dunno how you can see movies on there.  I got a Radeon 9250 128MB card with S-video output.  I hooked it up to a 27" TV.  Man, the display is so blurry I can't make out words or anything.  When I put on Street Fighter it looks a lot better but the desktop and MAME32 program interface looks blurry.  But I was warned about that so I am just going to have to get used to it.

Well, something weird has happened.  I bought a new sound card because the one onboard the computer has something wrong with it (only outputting right side sound intead of stereo).  So I install the card and get ready to install the drivers.  But now with the card in the computer doest not want to start with the TV, just a monitor, even if the settings say TV.  So I hooked up a monitor and navigated the installation process.  I started experimenting and finally got the TV to turn on as well, but it is very iffy.  Sometimes it starts with both TV and monitor, just monitor or none at all and computer does a series of beeps.  Anyone have an idea what's up?

I know you have probably already thought of this but check and double check your leads and card are plugged in properly.

the beeps you are talking about (if they 1 long 3 short) mean No VGA adaptor detected

Yeah, I checked and double checked.  Pushed the card in to make sure it was really in there.  And yes, it was that series of beeps.  Then when I restert windows it starts up with on of that above combination.  Could it be a conflict or drivers that need updateing (that's what an engineer that I work with said).

the no vga beeps are from the bios, therefore it will not be a driver issue.

have a look in the bios and check that initial video device is set to the right type pci or agp (depending on what you are using)

failing that it could be a faulty card

I will look into the BIOS.  I doubt it is a faulty card because it worked great for the past 2 weeks...until I plugged the sound card in.

Doh... missed that you had plugged the sound card in..... not sure how..


move the sound card to a different slot, it sounds like it is conflicting with your video card
