frames_to_run 1
« on: November 10, 2005, 04:49:29 am »
As we know, it was discovered that if you set  frames_to_run 1 set in mame.ini , you could skip warning screens etc..

Is this still reccomended? Has anyone had any side effects, particularly with Mamewah?

Why are people still recompiling Mame if simple ini setting can achieve the same thing?

Im running mame .89 by the way

Yes there is a side effect with Mamewah which for some reason makes the video not show up (just a black screen) - sound can be heard in the background.

I have no idea if this is MAME or Mamewah's 'fault', but obviously I don't recommend doing it!

It was also removed somewhere around MAME 0.100 and not included in very early versions of MAME.

EDIT: 0.79 to 0.99 should be able to use this.  From the original thread: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=41771.0

I've tried this with my setup and I cannot reproduce the error you have mentioned. In other words, Mamewah seems to operate as usual.

Great, but if it happens occasionally, then you know why...

Depending on how you look at it, it seems there are only a handful of games that give the blank screen in MAMEwah, and only a handful of games that have the "No good dump", etc. errror msg.

So if you either only enabled FTR 1 for the games that display the error msg, or only disabled it for the games that gave the blank screen in MAMEwah, you would avoid most of the problems.

Is there a quick way of doing that rather than going through my ROMs one by one?...

Only if you know which games don't work in MAMEwah, or which ones have the warnings.  I don't have that info.

I've been using this with mame .79 with no issues.  However I'm using another FE

I love it especially as I have a couple of variations of Galaga, which it is a very popular game in our household.

Good Luck

Once again - can anyone list a specific game the ini setting causes error in launching from mamewah?

No, it seems random (it is not related to bad dumps).

btw, mame isn't so bad with the ok anymore.  since they added the OK for ALL initial errors (removed the command prompt errors that cause havok in frontends).

And it only comes up once.

My trouble is my trackball control panel doesn't have a joystick for left/right.  So I had to setup the UI left and UI right to be mouse button 1 and 2.

I'm glad this is possible tho (as opposed to left/right being hardcoded in MAME).
