New toy! Odyssey
« on: November 09, 2005, 07:21:52 pm »
Bought a Magnavox Odyssey 400 today. In the box, in the bag, with the instructions for $4.00 at an antique store. ;D It looks brand new, box is quite nice :)

Sadly, it is missing the TV adaptor plug doohicky :(

Anyone know any good hacks, or have an extra laying around?

(edit: spelling ::))

I could be wrong (frequently am) but could one of those old Atari 2600 type adapters work?  Just an idea.

First thin I tried, but the plug is different. Google research seems to point to needing the correct part, so the search is on.

Maybe one of the guys here with mucho old game consoles will feel sorry for me and send me one ;)

I have mucho old game consoles, but that one is missing from my collection. I do have an Odyssey 2, but it uses the same type of switch box as Atari systems. Hope you can find one for it.

what's it look like?

I hooked an atari 2600 to a modern TV using an RCA to cable-coax adapter from radio shack, and a cable-coax-A/B switchbox.

Alter it.  Splice a more standard plug onto that sucker.

Yeah. I may just toss a RCA plug on it, then use it with my 2600 adaptor. It's so nice I hate to cut on it, but playing it would be a plus.

I'd hate to cut it up too, but it should work if you splice an RCA type plug to it.

I shall search for a correct adaptor for a while. then if none appears, cut away! I'll practice patience.

Definitely best to find the correct switchbox, considering the condition.

So, alternately, swap out the wire at the source, that way you can swap it back when you do find the correct adapter.

Working yet?   That IS cool. Try some simple wire clamps onto RCA plugs to see if it will work.  Those old consoles did not have too complicated of wiring.

In honor of Stingray, I have left it in the box, on the kitchen table, in the way, untouched since the last photo was taken. I learning to excel in all things lazy :)

Also, I worked a 75 hour week this week bidding a parking garage and a football stadium. More fun to come on Monday.

Perhaps I will work on it tomorrow afternoon? STAY TUNED!

This is a good first step down the road to slackerdom.
