15kHz via VGA ?!
« on: November 08, 2005, 05:14:28 am »
Hi everyone.
I have a Hantarex PoloStar Multisync Arcade Monitor that has a vga-plug for video. Everything working great from Mame to my Atomiswave. The AW is also conected via vga and has a dipswitch for 15 or 31 kHz, both working perfectly well.

Now I bought a IGS PGM Board and my question is:

Is it possible to hook up the video coming from the jamma harness directly to a vga-plug and expect this to work properly ?  What do I need to connect if I do so ?

If I'm right in the assumption that your monitor can auto-switch frequencies then yes that should be fine.  Just connect the Jamma video output (R, G, B, Gnd & Sync) to a VGA plug and away you go.

Assuming the pinout is standard VGA (it should be) then you can use this for reference:

Yes that's it - just one of the Grounds should do (I usually use pin 5 IIRC).

Tie all the grounds together.

Coming from ONE of the jamma grounds or from multiple grounds ?

...or split the video-ground from the jamma side to every ground on the vga-side ?

Thanks for the reply !

I don't know about the Jamma side, but I would think there is only one video ground.

Peale was suggesting you connect all the VGA ground together...it was Andy from Ultimarc who told me you can just use one ground, and it worked last time I tried.
