why does day old pizza suck?  you think it would taste really good cold or coming out of the microwave.  life messes with you like that, i guess.

Cold pizza is hit or miss, I find that cold pie from a real pizzaria is usually much better than from a chain though.
Microwaving any pizza is just nasty - it totally messes up the crust. You deserve better - take a little longer and put it in the oven - even a toaster oven will do a better job that a microwave.

i have tried the toaster oven method, and it seems to do slightly better than the microwave, but the difference isn't enough for the extra 5 minutes.  this thread reminded me that i had cold pizza waiting.  some cold pizza really sucks from good pizza places.  i think my problem is that i left it in the box, so that it became hard instead of a plasticbag.

left over pizza, wrapped in aluminum foil in the 'fridge, tastes good cold the next day IMO

pizza should be kept away from microwaves

Throw a piece of bread in with wherever you store the pizza.  It'll keep the pizza a bit softer.  The problem is that the dough dries out.  Sometimes the toppings taste like ass the next day too, but usually those keep better overnight.  The freshness of the crust is what  "makes" the pizza for you, and it flat sucks the next day.

Got a steam room?  Cook it in there ;)

Cold pizza rules, and reheated pizza in the toaster oven is often better than when its fresh.

I had leftover pizza for lunch today.  The only reason I ever bought a toaster oven is to reheat leftover pizza.  350 for 4-5 minutes.

Throw a piece of bread in with wherever you store the pizza.

Also, when hiking, try this:
Put a pinch of sage in your boots and all day long a spicy scent is your reward.

I've heard throw a damp paper towl over your pizza when microwaving it.

I don't know that I'll get ANY arguement about this one:

Day old pizza > Day old sushi.

ugh......who the F eats rice after a day?  it gets all hard and hard rice is nasty.  Pizza the next day is still good.

Please don't start accusing me of thinking sushi is only raw fish.  I know it's not.  Pizza is just always good.

did you guys ever see that one movie?  I don't remember...maybe threesome when the guy says something like
Pizza is like sex.....no matter how bad it is...it's still pretty good.

Think it depends on the amount of Italian in you, too.

One of my friends, if you are at his house for dinner, you do NOT call the red stuff on top of the pasta 'sauce'.  Its 'gravy'.

He also calls 'pizza' 'pie'.

After finish eating the pizza. Wrap in aluminum foil..

And throw the pizza into the oven or toaster oven with the aluminum foil on. It takes a while to heat up. But tastes fantastic.

I wouldn't say it's an Italian thing, it is mostly an east coast thing.

My in-laws were born in small villages in the mountains east of Rome.  They never refer to pizza as "pie".

They use "Gravy" instead of sauce.

I do believe that "Seinfeld" is largely responsible for spreading the use of "Pie" beyond the east coast.  I seem to remember that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles using the word pie on occasion.

I've never heard anyone in Oklahoma call a pizza a pie. I think that's something only east coast fairies (NTTAWWT) do. ;) ;)

I also like cold pizza, but I agree that if you're going to reheat it, stick it in the oven.

dead on with the sauce/gravy.  You'll get kicked out of my house if you ask for more pasta sauce.

I do think "pie" is an east coast thing though, Italian or not.  It's certainly commonplace here in Jersey.

When I was a youngster before the days of microwaves, we would heat pizza by getting a cake pan, putting some water in the bottom, covering tightly with aluminum foil, poking holes in the foil, put the pizza on top and pop it in the oven.  Lotta work.  Just nuke it these days, way too impatient even for the toaster oven.

If you must microwave, stick a coffee mug with about an inch of water in it in the microwave with the pizza. It will still be nasty, but at least the crust won't turn to rubber.

How I reheat Pizza:

Stick it in the microwave and nuke it until the cheese starts to melt.

Then drop it in a frying pan, and fry it on medium for a few minutes to get the crust all crunchy again.

This makes for very happy reheated pizza, and you don't have to wait for an oven to heat up.
