Front X Headphone jacks

I am in the process of mounting my headphone jack on the "dash" in front of the monitor.  I am using the Front X headphone jack found here http://www.frontx.com/cpx090.html.

The first shot is of the front x mounted in a test piece.  The simple mounting is cut out a square hole.  But it leaves the front stuck out a little.

The next shot is to show where I'm placing it: to the right of the USB mount.
(Edited in.  Not actually mounted.)

What do you think?  Sticking out ok?  I should mount completely different?

I don't see the 'sticking out' as an issue as such, but I would rather hide the USB and headphone sockets somehow.  I think it will detract from the look of your cab to have them on show all the time.

How about some kind of door or flap to cover them up (this would probably mean flush-mounting the headphone socket I suppose)?

I think the headphone jack would look a lot nicer if it were flush mounted, but I don't really see a problem with leaving it as is.

If it really bugs you, flush mount it... otherwise, don't bother.

I didn't think before but I would probably cut the socket off and replace it with something like this:

These look quite nice when mounted...just put a couple in an audio amp box.

why not a little black cover box?  hinge it on the top so gravity will keep it closed. 

So if you aren't using either, it looks like a little black box.  And if you are, then you see them both.

Seems like a decent cheap solution that doesn't rely on you redoing the woodworking.

If I remember correctly, Front X sells a 5.25" bay unit with a door... you could mount your usb and headphone jack in that and flush mount the entire 5.25" unit

All very good suggestions.   I had thought most about doing it with the cover plate as ROMbler said.

I don't mind the exposed plates.  I didn't want the 'extrusion' to look awkward.

I'll probably just mount it as is.
