ATTN MINWAH: Major Zsnes/ Mamewah problem!
« on: November 01, 2005, 07:02:35 pm »
I am having major problems with mamewah running zsnes. 80% of my roms load fine from mamewah, but a few, eg contra 3 and turtles tournament fighters do not load at all, no screen comes up, no response at all.
The ROMs are NOT corrupt and work fine if Zsnes is loaded manually using its own GUI.
I am using the hacked version of zsnes as found on screenshotarchive website.

CAN ANYONE HELP!

Here is my zsnes mamewah ini settings...

### zsnes.ini ###

Possibly because you have spaces in your filenames, try the quote_around_romnames option.

What he said...

You should also use a more recent version of Mamewah and use the {safelaunch} flag.

I'll give it a try minwah, but I really do not want to upgrade my version of mamewah, too much work reconfiguring all of the ini files.

Unless you wanna help me  ;)

Sure...I would recommend you go for v1.62b7 available here: http://www.mameworld.info/ubbthreads/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Number=49772&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1&vc=1&new=1130444752

How many emulators do you have setup?  I can give you a hand switching over...also JCrouse has ini's for --BINGO! Either that, or I was attempting to say "before" but it was too many letters to type-- here (essentially the same as b7): http://home.comcast.net/~cpviewer/mamewahinifiles.htm

### Execution Settings ###

emulator_commandline                      G:\Emulation\zsnesw\zsnesw.exe "[rompath]\[name].[romext]"{safelaunch}
post_emulator_app_commandlines
general_app_commandlines

### Artwork Locations ###

I have emus set up for Mame, SNES, NES, Sega 32X and Genesis - also a Jukebox platform too.
Its the button remapping for mamewah itself that scares me, took me ages to get just right and I hear that configuration is different with the new version..

You can still use your same ctrlr file - it will just need renaming.  Also the latest ctrlr file has more shortcut events, but you can just cut & paste these in if you wish.  Compare your ctrlr file to the attached...

Of course I should have said whatever you do make a backup of your current setup just in case.  In fact it is probably best to setup the beta version in a completely new folder until you are happy with it.

ahh, one more thing Minwah, can you confirm this for me..

With the new version I can ditch emu screensaver cant I and have Mamewah launch a random game after a specified amount of idle time and that game can switch to another after another specified period of time? Does this work without sound (i.e auto mute?) and what is the ini setting to do this?

Kindof...it will wait x seconds, launch a game for y seconds, then go back to the FE and start again.  For this you would normally set:

select_random_game                        1
saver_type                                run_game
quit_delay                                300 *** change this value accordingly ***

To get it to auto-mute tho you would probably do something like (emulator dependant):

select_random_game                        1
saver_type                                saver_commandline
quit_delay                                300 *** change this value accordingly ***
saver_commandline                         c:\mame\mame.exe [name] -nosound

Does the -nosound command work with mame32?

I don't know, probably if it supports standard MAME switches.  Why are you using MAME32 anyway?

what about fceultra, znes and kgen, can anyone help with those?

What do you want to know?  And why are you using Kgen...get Fusion:

Hey MinWah, can MameWah do random selection of video's for the screensaver.. And I mean, rather than play it to the end and play another video play it for a period of time... I have some videos, for example a fire place loop and a fishtank loop, which would be nice to loop over for a period of time rather than play once and end. Oops I think I just tried to hijack this thread, naa sorry!

You know what, many people wonder this and to be frank, I dont care. Mame32 works just perfect for me, why should I use a command line version? Especially when I can reconfig mame or certain mame games wirelessly using my master PC to load up mame 32.

K gen works just fine for me too. I have no need to change. Fusion sounds good but I dont deal with game gear, master sys and sega CD games..

In short, no...the screensaver doesn't have the option to loop the movies atm.

If it works OK fine, just don't see the point personally - it usually causes problems with FE's.

Fair enough.  I only mentioned Fusion as it is the best Mega Drive emulator around currently, forgetting all the other supported platforms - I don't use them either.

Hey Minwah,

I tried the quote_around_romnames option on my existing settings and it has solved the problem!
Thanks for the help everyone!

I dont think I will upgrade after all...
