Need help! Network Admin's help me out...server question
« on: October 31, 2005, 03:36:02 pm »
alright, so this goes out to all you sys admins.  ive got SUS (Software Update Services) running, and it's updating all my PCs on my companies network but its also updating the servers.  fine and dandy so far....but the problem is, it reboots my servers during the middle of the friggin day.  one of my servers is tied to our call center and it just rebooted taking everyone down until the server comes back up.  is there a way via, group policy or something to make it so that the server reboots at like 2 a.m. or something?  how do i schedule reboots for the servers?  HELP!

I think theres an option that lets you disable the reboots if anyone is actively logged in, but thats about it.  I've only scratched the surface with SUS. (read the faqs - haven't actually had the guts to set it up yet...)

I'm not really a sysadmin, but I -did- stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

But wasn't it fun to think you won the lottery, just for a second there???

Here's advice from and admin. Get rid of SUS or as I like to call it SUckS. Go with something like HFnetchk Pro.

Hmm...HFnetchk Pro for $199 minimal or SUS free.

SUS is fine for what it does.

And upgrade your SUS to WSUS, the new version that allows for a lot more configurability.
