WG 19" K7000 power problem

I recently got a free cab with a WG 19" K7000.  I turned the game on and everything powers up but the monitor.  I checked wiring, everything looked good, so I wiggled the monitor frame, somewhat forcefully.

It came on, but then a couple seconds later faded away to black.  Is this just a loose connection somwhere along the power line?   Anyone know if this is a common problem and where the connection problem might be? Thanks

The k7000 series has lots of bad solder joints on the main board, but also intermittent shutdown/startup problems are also because of bad electrolytic capacitors (needs a capkit). Generally it will be found that a combination of both bad solder joints and needing some new capacitors will fix it up. Sometimes the flyback will go bad, but it sounds like your problem is mainly bad solder and capacitors.

How will I be able to test the solder joints? Will I be able to just look at it and see, or do I need to use a certain tool?  Thanks Ken for your help, you are the man!

You really should setup a website with a bunch of FAQs, you've always got great info, you should dump it somewhere!

I've found that alot of cold solder joints are very hard to spot    usually the solder pad looks like it has a crack in it--usually all the way around--like a tree ring.  sometimes you have to wiggle the part to even see it--i usually start with the high heat parts (big resistors, large wattage diodes etc.) use a strong light and you should be able to get them all.

A good strong fluorescent light and a magnifying glass help to spot bad solder joints.

You're just going to have to bite the bullet and go over ALL of them. If the solders aren't a problem now there going to be a problem in the future. You should just Git-R-Done while you have the chassis board out for a cap kit. I hate going over all the solders myself, but it's just part of the gig.
