Video clips of ROMS - Market?
« on: October 30, 2005, 02:28:36 pm »
Not sure what section to put this under but was wondering if there is a market for DVD's full of 30 second video clips of games for front ends. Not tryting to make money but if I did offer the service I would need to pay for DVD's shipping, other costs invlolved in such a project. Because of the size of videos it would only be feasable to ship a collection of videos of DVD instead of trying to buy the montly bandwidth needed to host them. I have started creating video's for my own personal front end and was wondering after I put the thousand of hours in for my own FE, others could benefit too. Depening on the feedback I am going to make the videos WMV or MOV. All at 320x240 or 640x480, around 1MB each, and 30 seconds long. Each video should fade in/out and show the title screen and the game in action. If I have somehow missed it and you know of other simular projects please let me know.

Personally I just make my own as it can be almost entirely automated, just takes a long time (see Buddabings Mame movie maker thread).

I'm sure several people would like the ease of just getting a lot ready made (see emumovies as mentioned above) or off dvd's if they prefer.

IMHO I would not be keen on either wmv or mov, but thats just me, as its too tied to particular systems. They also don't provide the best quality in my experience, although with good bitrate I'm sure they would look ok.
