Donkey Kong MAME CPO
« on: October 29, 2005, 04:30:25 pm »
Hi, I'm after some feedback on the CPO I've been messing with. The original came from the Arcade art library using Fireflyz94 Donkey Kong CPO. I am building a 2 Player MAME cab based on the Nintendo cab shape and DKong artwork. I like the old school games such as DKong, Space Invaders etc so I wanted an early 80's style cab but when I have mates round it's all Mortal Kombat, SNK Fighters etc.

The image is .ai exported to .jpeg

Might want to make the arrows more stylized... a bit biger with rounded edges. All of the shapes on the CPO are rounded except those. If I were the original designer... planning to add arrows, I would have made them with rounded corners. Maybe make the back of the arrow look like the little U shapes prevalent all over the rest of the art.

Thanks mahuti. I didn't really mind the look of the arrows though. When printed with the graphics all being rounded the arrows kinda look instructional being sharper. I have just moved the P1 and P2 buttons out a few mm to clear the trackball guts and moved player 1's controls further to the right otherwise you bash your knuckles on the left side of the cab.
Would it be OK to up this to the arcade art library under HomeBrew? I see theres a defender CPO with extra buttons.

Please do!  That is almost exactly the layout of my CP and is the theme of my cabinet!  I'd planed on doing this same thing but never got around to it and just ended up painting the CP DK Jr. orange.

Justed upped it. I don't know how you go about getting CPO's printed to the right size for other cabs unless you mess with it in illustrator, maybe the print shop could sort it. My cab is 606mm wide, slightly wider than a standard Nintendo cab so this image will print at that width by default.
The trackball would also need moving if using a standard mounting plate as I've modded my trackball so it screws to the base of the CPO and just the ball shows from above  ;)

Looks pretty cool man!

I love the classic themed mame cabs.

Here are two classic themed overlays that I did for my cabinets. I would recommend Scott over at Mamemarquees.com for printing them.

His customer service is top-notch as is his quality.

Peace

Cool CPO's! I saw the rally-x one on the art library. I spoke to a guy who prints vehicle graphics who said he'd be able to print .ai stuff for the cab. Just emailed him to see if he can do it tomorrow. Asked if he can print the marqee and CPO onto polycarbonate or vinyl under clear poly. It'll be cool if he can. ;D
