First suggestion:

Stop thinking about spending $3000 on a freakin television.  What a gigondo waste of money.

Yeah if you have 3K go with a DLP projector and a big freakin screen. It a good way to spend 3K

Actually, I was thinking more like buy a standard 35" TV and use the rest of the money on something better.  Something that does not involve being on the couch.

Get a new one-two year old TV. You'll save a lot of money. Not good to be on the bleeding edge.
Vids:  Home built MAME machine, Crystal Castles. Arkanoid

The biggest TV in my house is 27", and there aren't that many TVs in my house.  There are as more vector monitors than TVs in my house.

Ooof! I'm about to make my third mortgage payment. If I had $3000 to waste I'd definetly make a principal-only payment or set it aside for when the roof caves in.

edit: actually, I don't have to worry about the roof caving in, thats where my condo $s are there for

I don't watch a lot of TV but when I do, I like to enjoy the hell out of the experience

One of the TV's in my house is a Panasonic PT-52DL52 52" DLP Technology HDTV. When we move into the new house we are having built we are building a home theatre with a 92" screen w/ a HD DLP Projector.

Xbox games are really nice on a HD TV. Can't wait to see the X360 on the Panasonic and the Home Theatre.

Screw that!  There is a Dunkin Donuts every 40 yards here.

I'm going to go to the Chinese place down the street and get some hot + sour soup.

I have a 60" (I think), DLP.  Awesome picture.  Spent less than 3K on that last year. It's in my basement.   Just bought a 37" LCD for my family room, it's fantastic.  Even makes non-HD broadcasts look nice.

Have to buy HD.  It's awesome.

If I was a bachelor again, I'd put 3 TV's in my main room.  You can play games and keep an eye on the game, have news on 24/7, etc.

Today's special, 3000 tacos at $1 each.

A 50" HDTV can be purchased nowadays for around $1,200.  the Christmas sales will see prices likely under $1,000.

Forget these guys!

Spend $1500 on a nice rear-projection bigscreen, and the rest on a LCD projector (I'm not a DLP fan because of the rainbow effect on lower-end models)

Best of both world's my friend!  I use the 42" for regular tv, and the projector for movies.   ;D

$2875 =  Most expensive vehicle I've ever owned.

I'd buy a HDTV rear projector for under $1500, a small TV for the kitchen ~$100 and spend the rest on tools.  that way you can build your own tables for the living room etc.

Or find a nice projector for ~$1500 and do this:

If you're not particular about your video, I found an old 3 tube projector on Ebay for like $200, bought a manual screen for $50, and have a 80" diagonal picture in my living room.  I feed it S-Vid from either the DVD or a Tivo, and viola - instant large screen.  Its not a Faroudja line doubler setup, but its fine for the kids to watch disney movies on.  The late nite movies get more... interesting also.

Of course, you need decent tech skills to align the guns, and you need to get used to sitting under an 80 pound box hanging from your ceiling (this is when you find out how much your friends trust your carpentry skills - by where they sit).

Noone wants the old PJ's now that new ones weigh 3 lbs and can be set up by an ameoba.
But wasn't it fun to think you won the lottery, just for a second there???

I like my Panasonic 50 LCD Projection TV. Best money ever spent! (I like to watch a lot of TV) Don't get a CRT projection. Too heavy and they can get burn-in.

I've had a 50" tv for the past 11 years. I look at other peoples 27" or 35" tv's when I visit and think "What a puny tv." Once you go big screen, you can't go back. The regular tv's look wimpy.

Get a nice HDTV rear projection for around $2000. You have to watch out for these new projection tv's that display on a screen, the replacement bulbs (which die after about a year) can really cost you.

If you really want to go the DLP projector route, get a regular 35" tv for standard viewing, and only use the big one for movies and such.

Well, having a puny TV suits me fine when I'm not watching it, which is most of the time.

Pretty much, I watch football and pro wrestling.  Occasionally I break in some World's Strongest Man or Reno 911, but not often.

I don't watch much "tv" - only Battlestar Galactica and SG1. I watch movies, and that's about it. With the price of movie theaters today, I skip it - it's cheaper to buy the DVD, since I would be going with my wife anyways. Then, I can watch it when I want without some moron's head in my way.

Plus, my sound system is waaaay better than the theaters...
