EA Sports Tiger Woods Golf Questions
« on: October 25, 2005, 02:55:53 pm »
I am a big fan of the real arcade Golden Tee FORE & LIVE and EA Sports PGA Tour.  I play Golden Tee 97, 98, 99, 2k, classic, & 3d in MAME with a trackball, but I've gotten a little tired of these and want to play a golf game that looks more like Golden Tee LIVE and PGA Tour.

I bought EA Sports Tiger Woods Golf 2005 because I was hoping it would play like EA Sports PGA Tour and Golden Tee LIVE.  However, when I created a player profile to use I find that my guy has only marginal abilities, i.e. can't drive further than 225 yards.  I've tried all the game modes and can't seem to find a mode where I can be a single player other than the profile I created.  If I play a two player game with the Tiger Woods character, I can drive 300+ yards with Tiger, but still barely over 200 yards with my profile character.

What I want is to play the game similar to Golden Tee or PGA Tour.  A more coin-op feel that doesn't take months of gaining abilities through playing tournaments, taking lessons, and buying ability through the profile editor.

Is it possible to do this?

There is a play now or instant action option on the first screen of the game.  Not sure the exact wording but there is a way to instantly play with tiger woods, no setup what so ever.

they want you to play TOUR mode so you can build your guy up.

or

Just to the "Play Now" like mentioned above.

side note: Ive played through the tour mode and my guy kills Tiger Woods in every aspect of the game.

I guess I'm missing it.  I'm posting a screen shot of what I get after the opening animations.  What do I select to get to the "play now?"

Go to game modes.  In there you can select to play on the tour i believe or multiple options.  Once you pick something, you can select whatever golfer you want such as Tiger Woods or your own guy.  I will check it out myself and edit this post.

Speaking of this thread, I have 2006 installed on my mame machine, but it appears that there's no resolution setting for 640x480, and the 800x600 just is too small to display on my tv. Anyone with 2006 running in 640x480?

Alright, I just changed my profile from my custom made amateur player to Tiger Woods and then went to the Tournament calendar and entered a tournament.  The first tournament I was 30 under for the 4-day tournament and won.  That's what I was looking for.

But . . .

This game seems to be harder to play than Golden Tee.  I really like in Golden Tee how changing the club brings a yard marker out on the course so you can see about where your shot would hit.  How do you judge distance on the EA courses?

Also, I would like to play through the Legends Tour with my amateur player, but I find it impossible to judge where my shots will go.  I have yet to hit a Tee shot with my amateur guy further than 220 yards or so.  Without being able to judge distance on the course, I can't tell where my shots will go.  Also, when I put my mouse cursor over the current club, it tells me what the max distance for that club is, but that is not accurate for my amateur player.  So . . . how in the world do you judge what your shots are going to do well enough to actually beat the girls and kids you are matched against?

Also, I beat a few players in the Legends tour and bought additional power for my guy, but I don't seem to be driving it any further.  I can drive fine with Tiger, so I don't think I'm hitting the ball wrong.

Finally, in Golden Tee you can predictably hit hood and slice shots to go around obstacles, but how do you do this in EA Tiger Woods?

Sorry for all the questions, but this game has a lot of potential if I just knew what the hell I was doing :P

I'm not trying to be rude here.... but Cheese n' Rice man, READ THE MANUAL!

The TW2005/2006 manual will tell you everything you are asking.  For example: Golden tee has the yellow line marker, but TW has a shot target button (camera flys to shot target).  TW however does not let you remap its button, so you will need to reprogram your CP to the correct TW buttons.

Good luck, and BTW, it is a GREAT Cab game once you read the manual ;)

READ THE MANUAL!

My kid lost it.

but TW has a shot target button (camera flys to shot target)

Is that accurate for the stunted ability of the amateur, or is it based on Tiger Woods ability?

Shot target is accurate for your ability at "perfect" conditions (temp good, power 100%, no wind, etc...).  The shot target button is "E" btw.  Hmmm... maybe you can find a pdf manual for the game online....  I'll do some looking for you as well.

best wishes  ;)

Haven't found a downloadable manual for the game yet, but I found a real cool resouce site for TW 04/05/06.

Here is a link to their downloads section:
http://www.tigerwoodscommunity.net/index.php?dlcategory=43

You can even download profiles that are 75% complete with everything unlocked (this was you can play a competitive game with your guests without having to use pro/canned characters!).

check it out!

Found the manual for TW 2003 on:
http://www.replacementdocs.com

I flipped through it and most all the controls are the exact same...

Thank you very much!  The shot target control made this a very playable game.  So far I haven't lost a match in the Legends Tour phase with my amateur guy!!!

Okay, I played the legends tour and defeated all the opponents in the $25,000 9-hole matches.  Now I am to the 18-hole $100,000.  I have been able to buy enough skill level that all my attributes (power, long game, shot mastery, short game, putting) are all at the 23 of 100 level.

The problem I have is that my amateur's skill level is not sufficient to compete with the opponents at the $100,000 tournament level.  For example, on the Tiger-proofed courses we play on, the fairway is 240 yards from the Tee Box and my guy can't drive that far even with the D9 driver and a perfect swing.  On the TPC 18th hole it takes me 4 swings just to get to the green when my opponent can do it in 3.

What do I need to do to become competitive?  Can I earn money by going to the calendar events and then buy more skill level?

BTW, I found the manual and read it from cover to cover.  It doesn't address this.

I found this HEX hack yesterday (for exp points)

open your player.plr file ("yourname.plr") with a hex editor (Hex Workshop is a great one): found under,
C:\Documents and Settings\YOURNAME\My Documents\Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 06\Career\Players\YOURPLAYER.plr

experience points location is in the line titled 00001784 (like the sixth one from the bottom on hexworkshop)
change the 3rd hex location (0000 0000 0000 .......)

 from 0000 to FFFF

 and the fourth   (0000 0000 0000 0000   ...........)

 from 0000 to FFFF

start the game back up and notice you have TONS of exp ponts

The only attribute I dont like maxing out is putting.  The more putting skills you have, the farther the putting gridlines show.  So if you max it out, you see ALL the gridlines for an entire green (makes it no fun,, and its ugly IMO).

Now you can create a bunch of "guest" golfers, apply this hex hack to them, and will all be able to compete at a high level.  Note, each golfer will have to take all the "lessons" to be able to use all special shots (shot sliders, power shot, etc...).  Takings lessons also costs money, so they each might have to compete in some events to get money (but, its just something that has to be done once for each golfer).  I dont currently know a money hack, sorry.

anyways... hope this helps.

Evidently the Hex locations are different for Tiger Woods 05.  The largest location is 00001518.  Do you know if there are Hex Cheats for Tiger Woods 05?

Thank you very much for your help, I really appreciate it.
