Anyone seen this ? Virual Pinball ARCADE MACHINE
« on: October 22, 2005, 07:32:38 pm »
Has anyone seen one of these ??

There is a cafe in the Netherlands who has one, but it's an hour driving for me...

http://www.tab.at/TABUE/Index.htm (Click on Virtual Pinball)

I have mixed feelings about this...on one side it seems like a great idea, on the other side I get some "ultracade" feelings about this. However the games seem pretty simple looking, there's apparantly no trying to emulate a real pinball machine, which I think is a wise choice (although it would be great to have a machine like this run a pinball emu for home use).
It uses a 42" TFT so it's probably pretty expensive....

Apart from "Pinball" styled games it also plays a Puzzle Bobble like game and more...

Maybe I'll drive up to the place to give it a testrun...

Also look at this company's "Silverball" machine (www.silverball.com) which seems to be a combo of Games machine (with classic game clones), MP3 jukebox and internet terminal....weird that they sometimes use the original names like 1942 and Bomb Jack....

But I think the virtual pinball is a concept I haven't seen before and I am open for and interested in to give it a test run....

IMO Pinball is pinball, IE a ball, all these pinball emulators will never be the same as the real thing. I would like to try it, but jeez all of you get real!!! You will never emulate pinball on a computer interface because they are different species! Wake up!!. What goes round sometimes spins ! (A pinball spins differently every game depending on every aspect of game{that could be wear or tear}) Doh Don't mean to have a go at your thread but that's the sort of machine I hoped pinball WASN"T heading. To truly emulate a Pinball you need need to hit something solid and computer graphics/language are just don't cut it. I could start a debate here over pinball V's Video machines but I am sick of seeing people playing pinball on a computer and think they are close to the real thing... The thought of putting side buttons on my cab to play pinmane, virtual pin or future pinball or what ever the hell you are trying to do and then adding tilt as was discussed in another topic  I actually started to think of ways to do this myself and  waste of time...But anyway I have had my whinge now Good luck with your pinball emulation but just remember the silver ball

Edit:That machine .... Gee I would love to play centipede on one of those . *mouth watering*

Haha, well I agree with you 99% ! A pinball is a pinball and should stay a pinball.
However, think about people who don't have room for a real pinball machine. And (and this is important !) I'd rather see this kind of machine, then all these zillion stupid , boring mega-ugly Photo Play machines around here in bars, cafe's, etc. etc.

I really like the desing and the concept.Your response has a bit of a pinball player that saw the first video games coming up. See it as another new, totaly different product, not a replacement.

No you can never replace a real pin by something like this, but it IS an interesting concept and I won't judge it until I tried it :)

Thanks for responding by the way, no-one else seemed interested ;)

No one responded because the machine has been discussed ad nauseum.

This is the first I have seen of it, so it most certainly has not reached ad nauseum levels. :P

I love pinball games, and the real deal is certainly the place to be, but...

I am not one of those jaded types that seems to wander these halls of retropeeps. I love the idea of video pinball tables like this one. You can fit hundreds of pinball games in the space filled by one real one. Is the experience the same? Of course not, but then much can be said for having choices, and these tables offer a much larger variety of gaming experiences.

Video pinball is a different type of pinball, and can offer up plenty of fun in its own right. Granted you have your vpinball that is just "trying" to be real pinball, but that is just one thing that a table like this can do. I like the idea of games like tetris and similar being on a table like this. Heck, a setup like this would also be pretty cool for top down shooters like 1942.

It was quite a while back, since that concept photo has been floating around for a least a year, maybe two, and no one has ever seen a real example of the table.

OK, didnt know this was old news, sorry.
Anyway, this would make it worth a bit more to make the drive up to that Cafe that is claiming it has one in operation :)

This is their site:

http://www.cafepavlov.nl/index.html

They claim it's unique for The Netherlands....I believe them ;)

Lousy site though, it only works in IE...
