Monitor Hiissing at me......
« on: October 12, 2005, 11:44:36 pm »
My 25' WG K7193 is making a hissing sound.  Whenever I move or even go near the annode wire (insulated tool of course) it gets louder! Now this wire was cut by myself when I replaced the caps, but it was spliced back together ( cant remember if it was soldered or not) and sealed with silicone cualking.

Any thoughts on how to get rid of this? Is the flyback bad, or did I just not do  good enough job splicing it back together?

Could this be the cause of the "wave" on my screen?? I thought the cap kit would have taken care of that!

Any help is appreciated!!

Jim

Is the anode clip under the suction cup properly seated in the anode hole?

You should NEVER cut the red anode wire. It can carry up to 30,000 volts! Any cuts or nicks can cause high voltage leaking. I trust when you spliced that wire you cleaned that area of the red insulation thoroughly with alcohol, let dry, soldered the wires then silicone glued it thickly, didn't you?

It's also possible that your flyback has developed hairline cracks in it's plastic casing near the focus/screen controls. If it has then it should be replaced with a brand new one.

Why in the heck would you cut the anode wire anyway?  It pops right off.

I took an old TV apart as a kid and stuck my fingers under this cup to pull it off.  I was probably lucky to only get a relatively light shock!

There's so many angles to start on here, I'll try and give it a miss....

Ok, the wire was cut when I was taking the chassis out. I guess I figured it would be easier that messing with the anode clip (my first attempt at repairing monitor). I realize it was a stupid move......but I cant help that now ;-)

Could this high voltage leaking be causing the wave on the screen? Also, I noticed that the screen turns a yellow-greenish haze, and sometimes the shape of the screen changes ever so slightly..........

Are any of the symptoms connected........maybe faulty flyback? Or can it be the high voltage leaking that is causing this? I recapped the chassis and replaced the remote board and still the same wave.

Thanks for the help........

Jim

You realize that by clipping that wire you could have shocked yourself in the same way, right?

Yes Peale, I do realize that I could have been shocked....I did take precautions while cutting the wire though.

Ok, we are so off subject now......yes I realize it wasn't necessary to cut the wire, and that it was just as dangerous as removing the clip....we all make mistakes and this was my rookie one!

Back to my original subject.....Now I know the hissing is the high voltage leaking (thanks Ken!). But the monitor was wavy before this....which is why I decided to recap it in the first place! So after the chassis has been capped, what could be causing the wave in the screen? And the greenish-yellow glow?

Could a bad Flyback cause this or is this a different problem? Mind you I have 3 different Jamma boards in this cabinet and they all show the same symptoms, so it is not the board. I have a line filter in place as well..........

Thanks for any suggestions...

Jim
