rgb to vga sb and vga sb
« on: January 16, 2003, 07:26:39 pm »
Hello,

Does anyone know where I can pick up a multi av in to vga out switchbox and a multi vga only switchbox for a good price of course?  I would like to hook up consoles (xbox,ps2) to my arcade vga monitor as well as a PC.  I understand that these just act as line doublers.  The multi vga switchbox would need to be video only, not have to rely on a keyboard being connected, and preferrably not rely on a manual switch but a powered switch.  All suggestions are welcome. ;D
Thanks!

I use this one and no problem ever...seriouslly..works great with dreamcast vga,ps2 vga box(its know the ps2 vga box really isnt a vga box) and PC.besides can you really beat the deal :D?
$21 for the box and you get 4 quility M/M vga cable.

Just dont switch between pc and other stuff while everything is ON(your computer, dreamcast).Just to be safe(i dont know why..i have a bad feeling :P)

Thanks Snaaake that is exactly what I'm looking for,  at one point our pc support guys at my work were throwing them all away since they moved to the keyboard/mouse supported ones (of course I didn't need one then).  I checked with them again, but they don't have anymore.  I'm really having problems locating the av to vga out switchbox.  I'm not crazy though, I know they exist. I saw one posted in another message board but now I can't find it.

What you are refering to is called a "scan converter" and not a switch box.  There are MANY types of scan converters available (some very cheap some very expensive)....all depends on the inputs and quality of output.  If you really don't care about the quality of output, there are cheap ps2 and xbox ones on ebay (search for "VGA Xbox" or "VGA ps2").

You should probably also read the "Game Consoles" section on the left navigation to better understand the various output options consoles have.  For example, for best possible quality from xbox, you will not want a scan converter, but rather a component transcoder.

If all you are looking for is a mechanical vga switchbox like snake's, I've seen them chap at fry's and MicroCenter. Check outpost.com and microcenter.com.

If you need to convert composite<->vga then you need a scan converter like Dave said.
