Arcade Monitor -> J-pac -> PC/AVGA?
« on: October 10, 2005, 11:15:37 pm »
Hello,

   I have recently obtained a nice Mortal Kombat II machine in great condition. I have plans to add new controls to the panel and custom art. The machine did not come with a monitor however. The orig monitor for it was a 25''. The guy who sold me it has a WG 25'' K7000 series monitor he is willing to recap and sell at a good price. I plan on putting my winxp machine into it for MAME and wiring up sound and controls. I have done research but am a bit confused on a few things. I know the j-pac has a vga connector on it, does the j-pac hook directly to the harness? or does it hook directly to the arcade (non-vga) monitor with the edge connector? Would a j-pac do what i need? output mame through my gfx card through the j-pac and into the WG K7000? Would this be good enough to display windows xp and mame? or would I also want to get the AVGA card to get winxp and mame working better on the k7000? Im very sorry if i am asking dumb questions here but i am pretty new to arcade hardware (not computer hardware). Thanks so much for any input you can give me!   :)

ps- http://www.happcontrols.com/monitors/k7000specs25.htm for the k7000's spec's.

Jpac outputs to the arcade monitor through the edge connector.  It basically slots in like a JAMMA board.  All other connections are to the computer (output from VGA card and sound card, input to USB or PS/2 for keystrokes) or directly to controls beyond the JAMMA spec.   If you intend to use Windows XP, you'll need to get an AVGA card.  If you use DOS or Linux, you can get away with some old VGA cards.
