Taking out the monitor on a cabinet I bought

I plan on removing the monitor.  Do I need to discharge the monitor if I am removing it?  Also, if I need to, is it as easy as attaching an alligator clip to the ground on the chassis and the other to a well insulated screwdriver then sliding it under the cap?  I found that in the monitor forum, but just wanted to be sure that I will need to do this for taking the monitor out.  Once the monitor is out, do I need to worry about discharging it in the future?  It said that they can recharge a little.  I don't want this thing to be sitting in my garage and my wife get a good shock someday.  BTW, this hasn't been plugged in for a few months.  I don't think that makes a difference, but it doesn't hurt to mention it.  Thanks for the help.

You do not need to discharge to remove a monitor. Just be smart and don't touch any electrical components or the anode.

I'd like to add, make sure the power is off, and grab the monitor by the frame handles (should be some oblong opening on each side of the frame...)

I did look through the monitor forum.  I just didn't want to take the cap off if I didn't need to.   I guess I will have to since it will sit for awhile.

I think he means that the monitor is going to be stood for a whilst before it is being used again. Since he won't be discharging it I think he is just worried of someone poking around in the back.

If it's as simple as it sounds in that post in the monitor section, why not?  Why not just do it so nobody gets a jolt.

From what I hear, even if it does bite you it's not that bad.  My father is an electrician and he said, if it hasn't been powered in weeks, you probably don't even have to discharge it (although he was talking about tvs and he is from the era of tubes).  I'd discharge it anyway and then you have peace of mind.

I have a monitor sitting in my basement. Not discharged. If my cats are dumb enough to lick the exact correct part that will zap 'em, then so be it.

I guess RayB doesn't have kids ... they have this knack for finding the exact correct part.

Having said that, kids are a bigger risk to the monitor than the monitor is to the kids ... keep it safely out of the way.
