Batteries for VS Unisystem

There's a holder for 2 AA 1.5 volt batteries on the board (marked), and the manual lists "AA Dry Batteries".

Are dry batteries just regular old alkalines, or NiCads or what?

Thanks..  Though they dont seem to work, the contacts are a little corroded, I'll replace the whole thing tomorrow.

Now, to hijack my own thread..

Do folks ever recap these boards?  There's a whole buttload of 10uf capacitors, looks like they're all there to filter the inputs, and I'm actually missing three of them (either cut out or legs broken off).  The board doesn't always seem to register coinups, I'll usually have to hit the switch 2 or 3 times to get a credit..  Would replacing all these caps help things out?  There's so many of 'em, that at 50 cents a pop they'd add up, I dont want to waste my time or money if it won't help.

That is a good question ... one that I have been wondering about ... I have coinup issues (also audio issues coming off the board) on my SMB VS board ... I have a spare VS board and was going to swap chips at some point. The audio issues (clouded and some static) made me think cold solder joints or caps (and of course, I haven't reflowed the joints yet as I guess I am lazy).

Cheers.
