mamewah key sensitivity
« on: October 05, 2005, 12:45:29 pm »
I just upgraded from .99 to 1

Has anyone else noticed key sensitivity problems in mamewah?

Is this something I can control in the ini files?

keys 1 and 2 fire really quickly.  If I try to change emulators, or go to game list options, the 1 is firing so fast it zips through whatever selections I could have made and starts loading a game.  If I Just graze the key lightly and quickly enough I can sometimes get it to press just once and get through the selections.

Is there a digital speed option for the front end?

Don't know what would cause this...Mamewah actually has code to prevent this (hold a key down and it should only activate once, excluding the navigation inputs).

Upgrading MAME has no effect on Mamewah, but I can't think of anything else that would make this happen either :(

Before I got my control panel with the trackball, I noticed the same key firing problems.  The down arrow on my keyboard, when browsing a list of games, would ALWAYS fire twice (jump 2 games down) if I were to pause on a game for a second.  The next keypress would cause a double jump.

Now that I have my control panel I use my trackball to select games.  It's like a breath of fresh air.  Much easier to select games now.

That's odd, that shouldn't really happen either.  The navigation inputs are handled differently (to allow them to be hend down) but shouldn't double-jump.  Not sure what would cause that to happen  ???

Ok, so I fired up mamewah again last night and didn't have the key firing problem.

Something that was posted there above stood out to me.  After pausing.  Last night I didn't go into the tab menu.  I just took snaps of some new (well new to me) games.  Played one for bit.  Took a snap.  Went on to the next.  The previous time I was in and out of the tab menu and pausing etc to try and configure Ikari Warriors.

Don't know if that's significant.

Idle comment, but don't use pause when you are going into the tab menu to configure games.

Why is that?

It's a known big no, no and in the FAQ.

http://www.mame.net/mamefaq.html#h03

Not only that, but I believe when doing that there is a potential of screwing up your cfg files.  If that happens, you have to delete your default.cfg and possible game specific cfgs therefore negating all the work you might have done configuring them.

Also, as it may of been easily missed, you have to delete your cfg files if you upgrade from .99 to .100.

Thanks for the explanation.

Along similar lines I could not get the spinner on my new control panel working in any game until I deleted all of my *.cfg files.  After I did that it worked perfectly.

that might explain the unusual behaviour I was getting out of the slider in discs of tron and super sprint.

Ok, so I had the atomic keypress problem again this morning.  Didn't have it last night.  All I did was shut down, go to bed, get up, turn the computer back on, and start Mamewah.

Is there any log,  or cfg or something I can post to help diagnose this?

I guess the big problem is that I'm having the one troubleshooting nightmare... can't reproduce the problem reliably.

Found it.

Either my joystick was sitting a little on axis in the dead zone and mamewah didn't like it with the key presses, or it didn't like my mouse.  Regardless I disabled everything except keyboard input and it stopped it ....so far.

I was going to suggest that next time it happens, exit mamewah and load up notepad. If it happens there too then its deffo not a Mame or Mamewah problem.

But it sounds like you've fixed it anyway.
