Serial Trackball crashes games
« on: October 01, 2005, 03:40:01 am »
Hi,

I have a serial trackball mouse that i use as my cabinets trackball. Whenever I play trackball games with this the game will crash back to MAME. I have tried with MAME32 and MAME. The games do not crash at any specific time or place.

Machine Specs
P4 1.5Ghz
768MB RAM
60GB HD

The mouse is a trudox trackball.

Does anyone have any ideas why this might be causing games to crash?

The games that I have tried are
- All versions of Golden Tee
-World Champion Bowling

Any ideas?

Cheers

DannyH -

I have a problem I guess might be related to yours somehow. My Golden Tee is fine, as is World Class Bowling...

but 3 out of 4 times my QUANTUM will crash. I notice that, when it does, the mouse isn't reading correctly... the lines drawn are VERY choppy, as if it's polling the mouse only every 2 or 3 seconds or something.

I'm using W2K, no special mouse drivers. Base MAME compile v 0.92

Never have figured anything out with it, I just deal with it. Mostly I'm just posting so you'll know you're not crazy... well, not about this anyway.

Have you tried these games without the trackball plugged in?  Maybe they are having problems running regardless of the trackball (?)

I have never used a serial trackball, but if your OS is 2k can you adjust the mouse sensitivity in the control panel?  Maybe that will help...
Nothing witty here...move along.
