Anyone ever fix a Dremel?

I was using a cutoff wheel and the "multipurpose cutting" whigamajig (you know the plastic round deal that holds the tool flat) to touch up the slot for t-molding where I'd bondo'd the corners of my cab..  It was going just fine, and all of a sudden the tool stopped turning and got really hot..

I'm thinking it got clogged, as there was a mountain of uber-fine bondo dust.  Anyone ever fix one like this?

I ask because you cant just buy the tool, you can only seem to buy the kit with 53235 stupid ass attachments that I already have, so I dont want to drop 80 bucks, and yet, I dont want to be without my dremel too long, because I use it every day for everything.  It's the only thing that can cut my wifes roast beef.

Lol... you may need new motor contacts....  look at your dremel.  There should be two blue colored screws close to the business end.  You may have just burned these out.  You can buy replacements, unscrew the old ones, and pop the new ones in.

Dremel repairs the tools if you contact them. They even have a trade-in program on obsolete models towards the latest models.

Most larger hobby shops, Home Depot, and Ace Hardware sell Dremel repair/replacement parts if you want to fix it yourself. Generally the two motor brushes that contact the motor commutator wear too far and don't make good contact. Replace them in pairs with brand new ones. I think it's on a blister card pack of 2 for around $6.

I have had my SEARS Rotary Tool stop working when I was doing something similar.  I changed the brushes and that did not work, so I took the thing apart and cleaned it all --especially the switch contacts.   When I put it back together, it worked.

I can totally tell you how to fix it, but you'd need a Dremel to do it....so that's out, I guess.

If worse comes to worse, Wal-Mart sell a Dremel clone (Handi-Tools, I think) by itself for about $15-$19.  I have one and haven't had any problems with it.

Did you try just blowing all the crud out of it with compressed air?
