Want to talk UGLY? My first Mame cab...
« on: October 03, 2005, 10:19:25 am »
I built this a few years back, with minimal available information and before the BYOA book was published. Having the book back then would have made this a lot easier.

It had a freakishly huge control panel. The overlay was my pride and joy. I spent a couple weeks just taking screen caps from mame and editing it all togeather. Some of it turned out fine, but some details were lost when printed.

Still a good learning process. My next cab will be better obviously, and the franken panel won't be so large King Kong can use it.

My panel was just WAAAAAAYYYYYY too big.

I even cut into the cabinet to mount it, but it was still not right. It was mounted about 6" too high for one thing, and I also made it from Plywood instead of MDF/Partical board. The next one I do from scratch WILL be partical board. Plywood sucks up paint like a sponge! I think I was also using spraypaint at the time as well.

Yeah, it was a learning process. Kind of like running a red light or smart mouthing to a policeman. Not a great thing to do. ;)

Don't worry. I am sure you have had a blast on your own scratch built machine so stand proud and put anything learned down to experience.

Rook, do you still have your Star Wars arcade game that is shown on your webpage?  If so, please don't gut it like you suggested on the page.
