And, somewhere in the process, have a glitch, leaving your PSP with a corrupted, nonaccessible firmware.

I have done it with 2 2.0 PSP's with no issues. Doesn't mean its perfect, but it does work. Since this release there are chumps on craigslist selling a service to downgrade PSP's using this for $20 a pop.

Eh, not that bad, really, for people afraid to try it themselves.  If it were $75, then yeah, chumps, but $20 is half decent.

Ya know....I'm having a hard time getting myself excited about the PSP.  It's weird.  I feel like I want to like it and I want to desire one, but I just don't care about it.  The geek part of me thinks that it's a technical marvel and everything is done right aside from the pricepoint, but, I just can hardly get myself to care about it.  Maybe it's the selection of software, or my lack of free time.  Maybe it's the prohibitive pricepoint.  But I kinda doubt I will ever own one.  It seems like by the time this thing has been out long enough to hit $99 there will already be a new Gameboy out that will likely shame it.  And I'm not sure I'll care about that either.  Maybe I'm just not into mobile gaming anymore.

It's a nice little toy, and people will pay the $300 with a credit card.

By the time they're done paying for it, they will be buying the next $300 toy with their credit card, saying the PSP is old and now they want to be able to store 55 full length movies on their device.

i blame sony for the lack of enthusiasm and overall lacklackluster image of the PSP.
whoever the ad firm was that handled the US release should be flogged.
They did nothing to display what ther console is capable of, did nothing to show off its awesome screen and graphics, hell you cant even see one if you go into a store! i dont think they ever even showed the unit in the commercials we did have, it was just the camera looking up at some middle aged idiot pretending to be 15 thru the screen from the psp's perspective with a stupid look on his face dancing down the street. they never showcased the product itself, and the market perception becuase of that lack of proper commercialization shows.
its no wonder so many are on the fence or just dont feel "excited" about the PSP.
most have never even seen one in the flesh let alone experienced what an incredibly capable machine it is.

Sony:

Hey, we spent so much on developing the thing, we could go one of two ways...

  • Release it at $500 and have a huge ad campaign
  • Release it at $300 and have no ad campaign

Rolling back to 1.5 you lose the supported web browser. With 1.5 you can play home brew games and play game ISO's floating about the net (shhhhh)

There's a bunch of homebrew software and emulators for the psp.  Attack of the Show said that sony would give it a rest as the homebrew and emulation seems to be a great selling point for the system right now.

1.52 is not capable of running home brew, emulators, and ISO's. New features other than locking the PSP didn't appear until v2.0 which has web browser, themes, and support for an additional video compression. Depending on your needs either upgrade or downgrade.  ;D

Or upgrade to downgrade?

1.52 to 1.50 doesn't exist, correct?

Thanks

Yeah upgrade to 2.0 then downgrade to 1.5. This takes about 10 minutes.

Without a doubt at some point there will be a way to emulate a v2.0 rev or by pass the limitation.
