Here's My Attempt at a Marquee
« on: September 27, 2005, 08:54:02 am »
I've posted this over in my project thread, but I wanted to post it here as well since it's completely artwork related.

I've been finding Arabian Knights-type art very difficult to find on the net.  I have no idea what I'm going to do for side art, but I figured I should at least be able to pull a marquee together.

The general colors of the cabinet are going to be black, purple, red, blue... all rather dark and vibrant.  This is my first shot:

Looks good but you might wanna get a  better background or just recolor this.

It shouldn't be any surprise that Arabian Knights / Aladdin's Lamp -esque art is difficult to come by on the net.  I suppose I could have gone and found something scannable at the library, but I'm just too impatient for that.   ;D

The background image here actually comes from Crash Bandicoot production art.  I've never played the game, but I really liked this scene.  Sort of an "Agrabah" night scene.  The original image was tiny compared with the demands of a 26-inch marquee, so obviously the image becomes pixellated as it is blown up.

I applied a Gaussian Blur to the background after resizing in order to erase the pixellation.  I actually like this because I wanted the background to be blurred... as if you are seeing the title frame of an animated movie called "Aladdin's Castle".  The title also becomes inversely sharper to your eye because the background is out of focus.

Here's the final image that I'm going with.  Like the original, but recreated more cleanly and to absolute proper dimensions.
