DVI to component question
« on: September 26, 2005, 06:16:48 pm »
Hi,

I bought a JVC AV-27530 27" black tv from feedback I read on these forums and was planing to hook it up to an ati 8500 using a dvi to component adapter.  The question is this, im seeing people paying 40 bucks for these things but I checked on ebay and see them for next to nothing, example http://cgi.ebay.com/DVI-I-To-3-RCA-Component-YPrPb-Adapter-4-ATI-HDTV-Gold_W0QQitemZ5812818937QQcategoryZ61396QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem  Is this the same thing I need or is there something im missing.  Any information would be helpful.

I got mine on eBay for $14.  It was exactly like this one.

It works fine.  I have component video going with the exact same TV and a Sapphire ATI Radeon 9600.  I have a thread that details how I got it working here:

Great, yeah seemed like a stupid thing to have to pay 40 bucks for, glad that one will work, bought it already :)  Any reason you used the 9600 instead of the 8500.  From what Ive gathered here the video card itself matters very little because of the lack of 3D mame games?!

And I already read your thread, thats what made me decide to use the component input :)

I wasn't sure whether or not I wanted to play PC games as well on the cabinet.  I'm a pretty hardcore PC gamer, so I'm certainly not going to be playing anything really serious on my cabinet... but I still wanted to leave the option open.  :)

I've spent the last 2 weeks or so setting up my computer for cabinet installation and so far I have a few PC games on it:

Star Monkey
Ultra Assault
Armagetron

And I'll probably also put Tiger Woods 2004 or 2005 on there because of the trackball.
