It's not enough that many are accusing the gov't of intentionally bombing the levees so that only black neighborhoods would flood...

...which would be a more effective accusation if the levees had actually broken in black neighborhoods.

I'm conflicted.  Well, not really, confused is more like it.  I've been reading how it's Bush's fault because he doesn't like black folk, so obviously he would be the one who authorized the upgrade....but I've been told he's a dope, so how would he know to do such a thing?

Such interesting things to think about.

Kobold, I thank you for your theory, but I'm going to hold off on accepting your ideas until they are confirmed by Mr Farrakhan.  He seems to have a handle on what's "really" going on down there, what with the early reports on blowing up levees and whatnot

The poor and unemployed have absolutely the least to lose in a flood, since they don't own that section 8 housing, nor any vehicles, nor anything else of value. The flood will not interupt their work (since they have none).

The government should force people to sell land for the same price, no matter what it's actually worth.  This way the land that's prone to floods, tornadoes, and riots wont be only land the poor people can afford.

The problem with this country is Bush is rewarding those that choose to work harder than others.

Okay, that last one I don't really agree with.  I know quite a few people who work their tails off 70 hours a week and just happen to not make much money.

To say that pay is in direct proportion to how hard one works is an insult to people like Police, Firemen, teachers, and anyone who owns a small business.

Coastal land costs more than non-coastal land, despite the fact that it is subject to hurricanes. So the comment on poor people only being able to afford that is rediculous.

As long as you have real estate being sold on the open market, and the existance of property taxes you will have an assurance that poor people will live in slums and the upper class won't.

The sheer existance of poor people, black people, and especially poor black people devalues a neighborhood. Don't take that as some sort of racist statement, it is merely a reality of the situation in America today.

There is no shortage of affordable housing for black people (or for white people willing to risk being singled out in all black neighborhoods). Houses in all black neighborhoods in my area sell from $10-$25 thousand. While the majority white neighborhoods start at $100K and the all-white neighborhoods start at $200K.

The number one factor driving real estate today is the concept known as "white flight". Black people move into a neighborhood. The more black people move in, the more the property value drops, the more the property value drops the more black people move in.

Once property values drop low enough for welfare recipients to move in, then it is all over, and the place becomes a slum.

So you aren't going to have poor black people living with middle class white people until there are major changes in white and black culture in america. Or more specifically it won't happen until white people and black people have the same culture.

It wasn't the coastal land that flooded the worst, it was the lowest lying lands next to the levees.  Basically, it was the land most likely to have 25 feet of water if the levees broke.  That was the land where all the poorest lived, because no one with an alternative would ever live there.

I love watching all you conservatives get together and snicker about how the dumb democrats think that Pres. Bush somehow targeted poor black people with Katrina.  It's funny because it makes y'all feel all warm and superior to pretend to believe that this is what liberals believe.....even though you know it isn't.

Liberals believe that poor people were tageted by Katrina in the same way that trailer parks are targeted by tornadoes.   They aren't, of course, but yet they are.

Many also believe that the President's lackluster response and his apparent lack of interest (staying on vacation for a couple days, etc.) stems from his distaste for black people and poor people.  This may or may not be true, but it's a perfectly plausible scenario and bares little resemblance to the retarded, "Yeah, Bush must have used his connections with the almighty to tell Katrina where to hit...," type of stuff that I keep reading.

Maybe Bush isn't racist and maybe he's a friend of the poor and working class, LMAO, but is the idea of having a President that is either of those things that difficult a concept to fathom?
