Problems configuring Mamewah
« on: September 23, 2005, 06:51:38 pm »
Hello.

Having trouble configuring Mamewah with mameanalogXP v 81.

Set all parameters to point to proper path. But I got a:

"no games available" message.

This is the text log:

9/23/2005 5:45:29 PM MAMEWAH launched
9/23/2005 5:45:29 PM Cursor scheme: Windows default, Arrow: (None), Wait: (None), AppStarting: (None)
9/23/2005 5:45:29 PM Desktop colour: 9981440
9/23/2005 5:45:29 PM Wallpaper filename: C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Wallpaper1.bmp
9/23/2005 5:45:29 PM Display mode: 800x600 @ 60Hz, 32 bit colour
9/23/2005 5:45:29 PM Decimal symbol: '.'
9/23/2005 5:45:29 PM Games list read: mamewah.ini-0.lst
9/23/2005 5:45:32 PM Layout selected: NO LAYOUT
9/23/2005 5:45:32 PM Bad image file: C:\Mameproj\FE\Mamewah\layouts\mamewah-art.png
9/23/2005 5:45:34 PM No Ctrlr Name specified
9/23/2005 5:45:39 PM MAMEWAH quit

Any ideas why the frontend doesn't see the games?

Thanks in advance

Mamewah is the easiest frontend to configure I belive.

You must Installed the required System files to run mamewah available with Mamewah.

Mamewah Only Depends on the Ini files so, mame.ini mamewah.ini
and the ?emulator?.ini in the INI folder should be configure properly.

Check for Correct Rom path , Emulator Executable path and define
them properly in ?emulator?.ini [Mame.ini]

Thanks Ahmer.

I went ahead and ran the system files that came with mamewah but sitll ran into the "no games available" msg.

I think everything is getting hitched on this listxml thing. How does one create that list? Isn't what that sys file is supposed to do? If not, how does one create it manually?

Thanks in advance!

Post your mame.ini file you use in MameWAH. Not the one in the mame folder. Also, let us know what version of MameWAh you're using, although it will say in the ini file. There is no file for listXML, it runs mame with a commandline switch to generate the gamelist if you choose listxml as the game list generation method in the ini file.

Also be aware that there is a dedicated mamewah forum here, http://www.mameworld.info/ubbthreads/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=arcadeospc2jamma

I read from that you are using AnalogMAME v0.81?  If so, change the list_generation_method to:

list_generation_method                    rom_folder_vs_listinfo

...and then generate the list.

Thanks Minwah.

OK. I switched to listinfo for the list generation method. And tried to generate a list but I only got a few games. It didn't seem like a lot considering I have a full rom collection.

I checked but couldn't find the list that was generated anywhere. Not even in the mame81 folder. So somehow the list isn't being made I take it.

I still get:

The "No Games Available" message.

What a drag.

looks like I'm missing something.

Hmmmm.

"No games available". There are some 2700 odd rom sets in there. Why doesn't it see them?

There are three parameters that effect list generation:

rom_path = where they are located
rom_extension = what the file extension is
list_generation_method = how the list is generated

That's it. Plain and simple.

Verify your path and extension are correct and then try a list generation method of "rom_folder" (without the quotes) and see if it at least lists all your zip files.

Thanks Jcrouse

And everyone else who has been so patient with me.

Can't get it working despite everyones clear explanations.

This is what I'm going to do:

START OVER

Sometimes you just have to. I think I pretty much messed up my Mamewah folder with adding and deleting stuff in the interest of getting it going. So I ended up deleting the entire folder.

I want to make sure I'm doing this by the numbers. I think it's easier on me and everyone else!!

Before I tackle the Mamewah issue. I want to make sure that I got mameanalogXP v 81. set up the way it needs to.

Sooooo (new post)....

Rhetro,

You are not alone with your probelm.  I have tried Mamewah with Mame32 (.082) and I am having the same problems that you are.
I have tried Atomic FE, Dragon King, 3dArcade/Emulaxian (My Fav) and MALA and they all work fine.
I have been told that Mamewah is the easiest to use, but I can't see that being the case in my situation.
I am, however, still struggling with skinning my 3dArcade, with mixed results...none of them good yet.  I am new to the sport so I'll stick with it in hopes of getting it to work.
I went as far as copying your .ini file over to mine and made the required changes to the paths etc. and it still didn't work.
Now if I can figure out how to skin MALA, 3DArcade and Atomic FE, I'll be happy.
I know this didn't help, but I wanted you to know that someone else was feeling your pain. :)

Hey John!

I appreciate that. I was really starting to feel stupid. I know how to read directions and have been at this for a little while (not too long mind you).  But I wasn't getting anywhere!

You pointed out som FEs that I haven't tried yet. I may give those a whirl! You like 3darcade? I haven't really tried that one.

But thanks. If something changes with my mamwah situation I'll let you know!

take it easy!
