Oh man, that suck-diddly-ucks. I hope you manage to get your money back. What game is the bezel for? Was the package insured?

It WAS packed securely.  It was still in the box, wasn't it?

It wasn't packed safely.  It was broken.

At least it had a "keep refrigerated" stamp on the package.

I can't tell you how many times I order monitor glass only to find it's already spoiled!

To be fair, he could have packed it riding on a cushion of air between sheets of adamantium encased in 6" of rubber and the USPS would still have found a way to break it.  Courier that kinds of stuff (UPS, FedEx)!

What is that Italian stuff stamped on the box?  What does Fra-gi-le mean?

You've obviously never seen how UPS treats packages in the warehouse. To them Fra-gi-le is French for stomp the crap out of. :-X

He seriously did not package that well. You should not be able to see the glass on the edges, and it should have a couple inch buffer (just in case it happens to "fall") I hope the insurance (if it had any) actually covers it. If he didn't offer it, I'd put it on him.

Forget insurance, demand a total refund.

Problem was, he was a shipping overcharger, so we paid nothing for the item and everything for "shipping".

Ugh.  I've reported so many eBay auctions for this violation.  This is against eBay rules as well as the rules of any rational, logical, trustworthy person in the known universe.

Those auctions burn me up.  "Buy my plasma television for .50 with $600 shipping."  Or those incredibly lame Mystery Auctions... "pay me $350 for this wonderful cardboard box and everything it contains is yours for free."

AFAIK, eBay hates them too because they are blatantly attempting to avoid fees.

Sadly ebay does NOTHING to prevent shipping overchargers.

In the eprom burner category, one seller has 3 different models of burners. All the same size. He listed one at $5 and $40 shipping, another at $5 and $75 shipping and another at $5 and $100 shipping. (while others were listing at virtually backwards).

He flooded the category with about 30 listings.  I reported them all.  NONE were removed, and he wasn't even a power seller.

About the only thing ebay removes anymore is people selling gift certificates with $100 shipping, even though they loose a massive amount of money on fees.

So of course all you see (before looking at the shipping on each item) is $5 burners while everyone else charges $70+

He did change to $20-$40 base and $30-$70 shipping now, probably after threats from other sellers and not ebay, since his old auctions were never removed.

In any case, this bezel cost me $20.01 total, a reasonable amount, the only way it was justifiable to send to a shipping scammer (a mild one at that in the realm of ebay.. it cost ~ $12 to ship). Unfortunately $20 was the shipping cost.

If you check eBay, they should provide you with a name and address of the person tied to the account. If you really wanted to be vicious, you could always fill out 100+ magazine subscription cards and check the "Bill me later" option.  ;D

$8 packing is not unreasonable for a glass item, I would charge a similar fee, but I would actually pack it well.

Ebay doesn't REALLY care about shipping overchargers. They just take each person for as much as they can. Going after shipping overchargers takes more money in labor than it saves.

I really hate when that happens.  It's absurd how many people on eBay don't know how to package an item.

i really hope you are able to get your money back.

So, the Postal problem, other than the shipper being a botard, is the Postal clerk accepting such a botardy package.

Clearly the Post Office insured the package the way it showed up at your door. I cannot see how they can say the insurance is void because of the packaging.

Okay I do see how they can say it. I just don't see how it's legal.

Right, but that postal clerk accepted insurance.  Acceptance of insurance should imply inspection by an official USPS employee for acceptable packaging.

Right, that was exactly what I was trying to say. If it was accepted and insured, that makes it insurable. However, the reality of the situation is that the post office won't pay, thanks for using USPS. NEXT!

I read a big article about postal insurance a while back.

Brunt of the article was that postal insurance is almost completely worthless, doesn't cover loss, they take the item if you make a claim, and it takes forever to process.

Probably because the paperwork travels via the same service that failed the original shipment.
