Vertical games downsizes on horizontal arcade-monitor
« on: January 12, 2003, 11:48:23 am »
'lo guys :)

I have a cab with a 25" arcade-monitor in it, a pc running Windows98 and Mame32 on it.
Everything runs very nice so far, I have one problem though..! When I want to play a game of say BombJack or some other game that original was designed for a vertical screen, Mame32 decides to scale the whole picture way too far down... I mean, the is a black border in the top and bottom of the screen which is about 5-10 cm high, and then there is a black border in both left and right side which are about 10-15 cm wide...

This also happenes in games like R-Type 1+2, Ghouls'n'ghosts etc...

Is there anything you can do to make that stop somehow? I have set Mame32 to "fullscreen" the games, but in some games it just wont :(

I have also read about the .cfg file that could be edited (where the monitor=arcade thing has to be typed), but that's only for dosmame, or? Can't seem to find any cfg files in mame32's folders :(

Any suggestions what to do to get it fullscreened in every single game???

Thanks for all replies in advance :)

gp here....
http://www.emusilent.net/mame/

download this.....
www.emusilent.net/mame/download/mame32plus_062.4_bin.cab

and run it. instead of normal mame 32 see if it makes a difference.

if you open powerstrip ,
display profiles,advance timing options,custom res,

so that ur 640x480 res u are using apears in powerstrip.

can u cut the PowerStrip timing parameters u are using out off powerstip(use the copy timings to clipboard button)

it should look a bit like this
.
640x480=640,16,64,80,480,1,3,14,24302,7

Generic timing details for 640x480:
HFP=16 HSW=64 HBP=80 kHz=30 VFP=1 VSW=3 VBP=14 Hz=61

mame32 plus has a beter hardware stretch when i just use mame 32 on an arcade monitor i cant play some of the vertical games...........if i use mame 32plus it plays all games full screen at the correct aspect ratio when h/s is enabled

I'm surprised no one mentioned Advancemame, which is usually the defacto answer to your question.

http://advancemame.sourceforge.net

Good luck!

Ahrg, can't get it to run :( it says it needs some file :(
Am also finding more and more games that's not filling out the screen, which makes 'em rather unplayable :(

Is there any god out there? If so, let him show me some mercy!!!
