Any good 19" arcade monitor reommendations?

2) Brand new.  Start looking at the deals the big arcade parts companies have to offer.  Happ, Penn-Ray, Mazzco, Betson.

Actually there is a Betson locally in my city and they sell new 19" for $150.

I might need the frame, I want to get my whole cab working, after that I can figure out what I want to get rid of.

They said the monitor brand is a 19" Imperial.  Is that ok or should I look around for better?

Imperial is a Betson monitor. In reality it is manufactured by Kortek.

I believe (I could be wrong), that what really matters is horizontal sync, which arcadevga locks at 15.75, to make a real monitor work without losing sync every time the resolution changes..

From experience I can say that my new happ vision pro monitor doesnt lose sync when swapping different (real) jamma boards, ie, I used the test modes on my Contra to set it up, popped in a Cobra Command, Bad Dudes, and then finally my Neo Geo..

Get the Happs Vision Pro. They are on sale through the end of this month for $159 + Shipping. Shipping is less than $20.

I have one in my Q*bert mame. It has a remote adjustment panel so you can tweak it from the front. Use it with an ArcadeVGA card and all of the games are arcade perfect. No monkeying around required. The picture is AWESOME.

So after considering tax vs shipping, I'd only have to pay less than $19.50 more for the Happ.  Considering the overall cost of a cab, that is a minimal price difference, and I don't mind it at all, esp. if it is a better product.  The remote adjustment seems nice.  Are you SURE shipping is really under $20???  That seems amazing to me.  Considering someone just paid almost $300 shipping for their monitor... That is obviously gouging, but I thought they usually cost like $50+ to ship those beasts.  I know when I had to send my 17" computer monitor in for "free warranty service" it cost me almost $40 for the cheapest ground shipping. 

I will probably email them confirming shipping and asking about vertical mounting.  I have the vertical mounting rails for my existing monitor, maybe I can just use those...

I live in Los Angeles and shipping was $17. They have a couple warehouses around the country that they drop ship from.

You can remove it from the frame that is comes in by the four corner bolts. Then just drop it in and bolt it to your frame. That's exactly what I did in my Q*bert. It lined up perfectly and bolted right up.

Don't bother asking them if you can remove it from the frame. They'll just say that they don't recommed it cause it voids the warranty. Like it would be really hard to throw it back into the old frame to send back. Just keep the original frame for 90 days(The pathetic length of the warranty).

I think you will be really happy with it. When I first started it into a game with the correct resolution I was in awe.

Well.  I already managed to ruin(?) one monitor.  Hopefully their frame will work - they have one for the same price with what they call a universal frame.  Won't that mount vertically?  (I asked them in email so I'll find out tomorrow.)  90-day warranty and if something goes wrong it will be expensive to ship.  That's not a plus.  As opposed to something I can get locally and presumably serviced locally.  I guess I'll still go for it though.

Well, after some indecision, I placed my order with Happ for the 19" Happ Vision Pro w/Universal mount.  I did not like their phone people and I did NOT like how they refused to estimate shipping until I paid.  I went on UPS and FedEx sites and initially estimated shipping over $100!  So I was going to get the local mon, but couldn't get down there today.  Then I realized my own 19" monitor is more like 44lb rather than 100lb (bad estimate )  Anyway, UPS then listed as $22 and FedEx $16, so I went FedEx (ground).  Hopefully I won't get gouged...  I don't know if the remote control PCB of the Happ will matter since it does not have sync.  But it should be fine (I may just restrict software to certain refresh rates and deal with screen tearing rather than having to resync all the time...)

Thanks for the info.  Wasn't nearly as cheap as I hoped, but all things considered it wasn't too horrible.  Hopefully it's a nice monitor.  Here's the shipping stats on the 19" Happ Vision Pro w/ universal frame, for any other prospective buyers:

The leafs are shipped in a seperate package because the monitor comes in it's own special box.

As for the tax, they will charge you sales tax in any state where they have a business presence, or where the state they ship to has such a requirement.  Vermont is one of those states.  Even though CompUSA doesn't have a presence here, they still have to charge me tax because of Vermont law.

Do these VGA/SVGA units utilize a standard SVGA cable similar to the one that runs from my video card to my PC Monitor?
