Betson Shipping Overcharge?
« on: September 20, 2005, 12:37:04 am »
I received my Betson 2 months ago and they charged me $158.85 for shipping. Today i received a bill from Central Transport for $120 that is for:
Residential deliver - $50
Inside delivery - $70

Basically they called me a day before delivery to verify that I would be home. I was not home when they delivered it so my wife accepted the box. The guy just said 'where would you like it?' and my wife said that the guy can just bring it down stairs and my wife had to help the guy carry the box. He said sign here and left. Now I get a bill 2 months later for $120 additional delivery services with my wifes signature under the extra charges.
Has this happened to you guys?
This is insane to have to pay $300 shipping for a monitor.

Who are you complaing about Betson or Central Transport?

The title of the thread says Betson, but it seems Central Transport charged you the extra shipping not Betson.

I bought a WG, not Betson... But as far as the shipping went, here's a short story:

I ran the monitor through customs (I'm in Canada), and paid taxes etc at the Customs office.  That was an extra $75.  Then I went to the shipping company, handed in the Customs paperwork.  At this point the guy asks me how heavy the item is.  I mention it's 80-100lbs.  He asks if I want the item to be tailgated.

I said "Sure, if that's necessary...."  He tells me at that point that it'll cost extra.  So I say "Uhhm, isn't the tailgating to ensure that YOUR delivery guy won't break his back?  If it costs extra, then forget it, I'll help him get it off the truck myself." ... He then tells me that he'll "see what he can do".  Sure enough, the truck arrives with a tailgate, no charge.

Be careful with these delivery services. They'll try to nickel and dime you for your shipments, it seems.

I called the trucking company and they said there is nothing they can do about the residential delivery and that they would get back to me regarding the inside delivery.
I called Betson and they told me to disregard the invoice and that they paid the trucking company for the residential delivery.
I still don't know about the inside delivery charge.
Hopefully this little thread can help out others when they have their monitor shipped to them. There are a few things to watch out for when it comes to shipping companies. Also if you can't accept the shipment on a particular day they will charge you to to come back and this can be another $50-$100. And make sure you warn your wife not to sign off on any other charges.

Mine came from Happ for ~30 bucks UPS ground, got it in 3 days.  I had em ship it to my work, but I dont think home delivery would have made a difference.

My only beef with Happ is they have no way to estimate shipping and handling before you actually pay..  I didn't know exactly what I'd been charged until I got the invoice in the mail.

There's no justification at all for any charges like you outlined.  None.  Most stores charge $35 to deliver giant appliances to your house and install them.  I'd never pay them a dime, I'd be on the phone screaming and threatening to take them to court (after being nice stopped working).

It sounds like Betson was not at fault, but rather the trucking company. Of course crossing the border to Canada didn't make it an easier either.

I picked up my monitor from the local office.. free shipping!

You might want to tell this other shipping company to deal with betson since they are the ones you bought from.  If anyone charges you extra it should be betson right?
