tomorrow i've got to cut out the coin door hole and fit the coin door and also put in a monitor shelf - and put the monitor in to make sure it fits.

i'll get some photos up shortly after

I certainly hope that giant frankenpanel in the background isn't going on there!!

You own a lawnmower on steroids, but not enough steroids to actually make it a car.

And as I am being anti-paige today, not only do I want you to use that piece of wood for your CP but I am also suggesting that you add more controls to it.

Your project is looking awesome by the way.

Ok, that described my Geo Metro, but I also have a Suburban. Which is certainly not a lawnmower.

I have an Empty Defender cab in my garage. The sides were painted with a coat Kils primer 2 coats of black enamel, then a coat of black latex. I am really interested in seeing if you are going to apply a stencil on for the artwork or if you are going to use adhesive vinyl.

I thought about cutting stencils out of cardboard for mine, since the cabinet artwork only consists of 2 colors, but I ended up just ordering vinyl graphics in order to get it done in a reasonable amount of time.

I have a copy of the stencils that can be printed from Illustrator for both the red and yellow sections. There is also one that I may have that you can print on a regular printer and just piece the stencil together.

I would really like to make stencills make stencils that could be sold for cheap.

I have a set of Defender Sideart from Arcadeshop.com. I never used it because my cabinet turned out to be a clone defender and not an authentic williams, so the art didn't fit right.

I would let it go slightly cheaper then they sell it and it is still sitting in the box they shipped it to me in.

Done a bit more work on the cab:

- Monitor shelf installed and monitor positioned

I should mention that I got my artwork printed by Scott at Mamemarquees.com.  I scaled and cleaned up images that I found on Localarcade.com and other sites to the size that I needed to fit my cab.  He was very quick in getting it to me and the quality was excellent.

Your cabinet is beautiful!

Someday I'd like to do a Defender only cab (jealous)...

Defender is my all-time-favorite game...  and I royally suck at it!
Happy Gaming!

That's great too... get more out of it.... but it looks like you have the most important design consideration spot on: the controls  ..which is all that matters for defender.  The game simply cannot be remapped to any other control configuration... it just does not work.

The game is so fluid and incredible by any standards (especially for early-early 80's tech!). Like all Williams games, the sound is genius.  I can't wait to fire mine up when I get done just to hear the thing!

Have fun!
Happy Gaming!

For the love of God, put a REAL arcade monitor in that thing. You spent all of that time and money making that cabinet look great and you are going to throw a used Dell monitor in there that looks too small(though I have seen a lot worse)?

I understand that it costs more, but so what? Just save up and take a longer time to build it. Patience.

I never understood why people will skimp on what is the most important part of the experience. All of these cabinets with these dinky little monitors.

.....absolutely beautiful.

I'm guessing the monitor is a placeholder though right?...I agree....that thing looks fantastic....go for the biggest monitor you can cram into that sucker!
Seriously. Will it fit in my basement or what?

A 19" for Defender works well as you are close to the screen.  As the screen gets bigger, it's harder to keep track of all the alien ships all over the place.

You can pick up a 19" CGA monitor on Ebay right now for around $150 plus shipping.

my only concern about a 19" computer monitor is it actually fitting in the cab.

If you have built your cab to exact Defender specs, which appears to be what you have done, then you will have no problem fitting a 19" arcade monitor in your cab. If you are talking about a 19" computer monitor, then it will have to be decased first.

your cab looks cool. more accurate than mine:(
FYI the 19" monitor should fit in with the case.
it's only if you wanted the rotation that the case then gets in the way:)
keep up the good work.
