I work for a young men's organization and this morning when I got to work, I found out that our website had been hacked.  It's the second time that it has happened and while the first time was annoying, it wasn't that big of a deal.

So I deleted the dorky picture and news item that the person had posted and figured that would take care of it.  Wrong.  The @(#$&er had deleted every thread in our forums that the kids had started.  Some of the topics included invitations to tournaments (athletic, x-box etc), debates about how to improve stuff in the organization, and other harmless stuff.  There was not anything political, religious, or any topic on their that would have been remotely considered controversial.

Hacking the site to show that it can be done and that the hacker is so much smarter than us is one thing... no harm, no foul.  But to delete the stuff that the kids were talking about is just being an ass.  There was not any personal information nor financial info available on the site.  It was literally just the guys talking about the stuff they wanted to talk about.

The really sad thing is that if the s.o.b. that did this would have had a chance to join our group (or one like it in his state/province) then he probably would have been accepted by his peers regardless of his social, political, or religious background.  He could have learned a lot, had a chance to grow and develop as person and made some great friends.

Just needed to vent....

THat happened on a Mini forum that I moderate twice last year. Lucky the guy didn't delte any threads, he just changed the names of the sub forums to a string of obscenities. Sadly, PHPBB, while very feature filled and outstanding board software, it's very easy to hack. I suspect that's what your site was using as well

It was MaxWebPortal, I believe.

We have been able to track the hacker's exploits via http://www.zone-h.org/
