WG 25K7193 Monitor problems ... Help please.
« on: September 15, 2005, 10:27:31 am »
Now let me start of by saying that I have a some/little knowledge about PCB repair .. and I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty and start soldering, or testing circuits and such.
But The monitor pcb and chassis is one area I haven't dealt with before, and i would venture to say that I have zero knowledge about it. So I am nervous
of sticking my hands into something I shouldn't and getting zapped. In addition to that, I haven't got a clue what's wrong with my monitor or where to start looking.

So any suggestions would be appreciated, and hopefully this is a simple problem that can easily be remedied.

Now with that out of the way ...

The monitor I have is a Wells Gardner Model 25K7193, nice and bright ... tube lights up in back, picture is clear ... no buzz / hmmm.

Symptoms:

When the game is powered up there is intermittent jittering in the monitor (similar to v-hold being off alignment) It jumps up and down.
This seems to be affected slightly when the joystick or buttons are moved.

Flyback maybe?

The clicking is usually a spark from the flyback to the frame.

Check the flyback for cracks and pinholes.

The jittering could be from either bad solder joints, needing a cap kit, or a bad vertical size/vertical hold white trimpot.

The tick/crack sound is likely a flyback transformer going bad. It's probably got hairline cracks in it (usually not visible until you actually remove it from the board and clean it off well).
