Hey all!  Saw this will be coming out in october.  I think it's crap that they made it exclusive to the psp.  Just sony's way of making you have to buy a psp.  They'd obviously sell tons more copies if it was on all systems.  what gives?  Any thoughts?

zat the same game that's been coming out "soon" since the PSP launch? Is it me or do they keep pushing that date out one month at a time?

I think it's just that the PSP isn't nearly as powerful as the Xbox or PS2.  The PSP isn't as fast, doesn't have as much memory, doesn't have nearly as much storage space...  You just couldn't put San Andreas or Vice City on the PSP, and porting Liberty City to the other systems would feel like a total rip off after the near perfection that was San Andreas.

Same reason you don't see the same games on the DS and the Gamecube.  The platforms aren't similar enough to release the same games for both.

the PS2 is 300 Mhz, the PSP is a 333mhz...it has more memory capacity(not system memory obviously), and has only slightly smaller media storage, but most games are bulked up with fluff files anyways.
do you own a PSP?

I can't imagine that Sony will leave this as a PSP-only product forever. There will surely be a PS2 version after a while. Remember that the last couple of GTA games were PS2-only for a while, but not forever.

lets face it the PSP has been plagued by remakes and ports and sequels since its release, they really need a developer to come up with something to set the PSP apart, an ORIGINAL platform title.. i know that word doesnt come up much in games design these days..

No, I don't own one.  The architecture is significantly different.  It's like saying that an Intel 3.0 Ghz proc is faster than an AMD 3500 simply because the Intel has a faster clockspeed.  They also have wildly different graphics cores and people programming for the PSP don't have to draw nearly as much at any given time because the screen is so small that it's resolution is far lower than PS2 games (I don't know what it is but it's well below 640x480).  Think of it this way, when you install a game on your computer the performance throttles directly with the resolution you set the game to run at.  Set it at 640x480 and it'll run like butter.  Crank it to 1600x1200 and it's a slide-show.  Additionally, doesn't the PS2 use DVD media, which holds 9 GB of data while the UMD holds something like 1.5 GB?  Am I getting those numbers wrong?

At any rate....don't get me wrong, the PSP looks very powerful, but it doesn't seem to be as capable as its older brother.

I'm no hardware expert by any means, but I agree with Shmokes. It's completely invalid to say that one system is faster than anther based solely on clock speed.

What about lumines?  That seems to be a good original title for the PSP.  I don't own one or ever plan on getting one because of the price.  I can't spend that kind of money on mobile gaming.  I don't actually have many opportunities to play games on the go, and when I do, a gameboy sp will work nicely for a fraction of the cost.

I was thinking the same thing. But I think he means that the platform needs a Zelda, Mario, or Crash, or something like that. An original platform mascott/evangelist.  Many of the titles for the PSP have been seqels (Metal Gear Acid, Ridge Racer, GTA (soon), Wipeout, Madden 06 (soon), Street Fighter (soon), Metal Gear Solid (soon).

Mercury is a kinda a Lumines sort of title and it's fairly unique and awesome too. Think Marble Madness but with phenominal graphics and physics.

I generally focus on dead platforms (SNES, NES, PSX, etc.) and MAME. I don't generally get into the cutting edge because of the ongoing cost. I don't have a cube, Xbox, or PS2. So my PSP fills that modern home console void and it does it really well. But it's as a mobile device (game player, movie player, MP3 player) that it's really justified for me (business travel).

the different resolutions is really a big deal for the psp, but that and being new is PSP's current problem.  Mainly because developers don't know how to write a game that works with all the platforms yet.  The development systems aren't there yet.  And by the time they are, xbox360 and maybe even ps3 will be out...

But if I can write a game that works on the big 3 without much troubles.  If I have to resample all the graphics to get it on PSP and maybe even use other tools... why would I?  You might get 25% more income, you might end up doing 50-75% more work for it.
