DDR Games
« on: September 14, 2005, 01:29:16 pm »
Hi, I've recently bought a pair of DDR pads to use with my PS and PS2, and I've been hooked. I only own DDR 3rd Mix, can you guys tell me which DDR games are best buys.  Thanks

Well, if you want to "try" mixes out get an usb adaptor for your pads and stepmania.  Then find a place to get the mp3 and step files for the mixes.

If I were in any way interested in DDR (I'm not) Sephroth57 would be the first guy I'd talk to.

Of the 3 currently available US PS2 DDR games (Max, Max2, and Extreme), I'd have to vote for Max2.  It's the most newbie-friendly with the best music and interface.  Extreme and MAX follow in that order.  Extreme 2 is due out at the end of the month, and it looks to have a lot of great songs included.

On the other dancing games front, I'd recommend at least taking a look at In the Groove.  It's put out by RoXor/RedOctane (and currently on sale at RedOctane.com for $19.99).  The songs are longer (2:00 rather than 1:30) and the stepcharts are a lot more interesting.  It is more difficult than DDR, however.  Pump it Up just also released a home version of PIU:Exceed with mat (5 arrows, not 4), but at $59.99 for the bundle I'd recommend waiting for a price drop (I expect it to be about $20 within a year's time)

As for other rhythm games, Taiko Drun Master just had a big price drop at BestBuy, you can get it for $20 (controller included)now.  It's the game Donkey Konga as ripped from, and is a good bit of fun for the price.

But yes, you could always download Stepmania and the Bumper packs of songs, but it's just missing something for me.

DDR can be fun if you make it a drinking game.

I want to see video Twister.

Looks like i got to the party late, but not too late :D  Anyway, since you mentioned 3rd mix, which is an import, i'd assume you have the capability to play import games (lucky you).  In witch case i'd recommend shelling out for a jp. copy of DDR Extreme.  Its the exact songlist as the arcade version (lucky japanese) except they added one song.  Thats right, over 200 songs one one disk.  Yeah, no eyetoy, but that kinda seemed a little slapped on to me. MHO.  I'd do it myself, i could play imports, but i don't have that much money on hand, or at all.  Anyway, if your looking for domestics, try and hunt down DDR Konamix for the PSX.  Its old school like 4th mix, but i still have fun with it.  Anyway, enjoy!

My ps one is modded 8)

I was checking out stepmania and found it really interesting. I've downloaded a couple of songs and it's nice. I'm going to try with my pads when my usb-Ps adaptor arrives. Btw I've got a cool price on a dual usb ps adaptor @ www.electricquarter.com for 11.99 shipping included nice :D

Do only thing it didn't like about stepmania is that there are no animated backgrounds!!  :-X but it's ok!!

I guess I know where I'm going after work tomorrow!

I've always wanted to try that game but always thought, "What if it sucks hardcore? Then I will have wasted like $50!"  $20 isn't so bad though...
If there's bees in the trap I'm catching em
By the thorax and abdomen
And sanding the stingers down to a rough quill
Then I dip em in ink, and I scribble a bit
But if it they wriggle then I tickle em until they hold still
Lemme say it again
In my land of pretend
I use bees as a mf'n pen

There's a $5 off any PS2 game coupon from McDonalds that'll take the price down to $15.  Check the online bargain sites (I found it at Cheapassgamer.com) for the printable coupon.
