mamewah - shell, rom list, other noob qs
« on: September 14, 2005, 12:11:01 am »
i searched around but couldn't find answers to a couple things. was wondering if anybody could help me out...

i want to run mamewah as the shell, but i also run joy2key. i'm guessing the startup folder doesn't work w/o explorer, so is there a way to get it to load up alongside mamewah as the shell?

when i run mamewah on my monitor it loads every mame game fine. when i run it on the tv only, it sometimes give errors booting games. this is mame 0.99.

also, how can i get my mame .99 game list names to be correct as opposed to the names of the zips? do i need to download something? i had the mame.ini set to read games rom_folder_vs_dat_file but it wouldn't do anything so i set it to just rom_folder. the names are obviously incorrect.

Not that I know of, but I'm no expert on this subject.

Do you need to run JoyToKey all the time?  If not then you could maybe launch it from Mamewah before whatever emulator...

Maybe a resolution issue...try specifying an actual res (eg 640x480).

The default is the correct list_gen_method for (latest) mame - rom_folder_vs_listxml

I've gotten around this by setting the shell to a launcher program (instead of mamewah) and using that to start joy2key and mamewah (and some other apps).

thanks for the replies; it's a great frontend, minwah. i went back to mess with it, and i've had only one other problem, again with MAME.

 if i've played a game once, i can't play again. it won't load. the mamewah log shows it's trying to run the emulator, but where the game name would go, it shows <mameconfig version="10"> {flags=18}, so it looks like it's trying to run the following:

c:\mame\mame.exe <mameconfig version="10"> {flags=18}

i'd copy and paste the line in the log but my box with the mamewah is somewhere else and has no NIC. the first time i play the game from mamewah, works fine. if i try to run the games from windows, it works every time. any ideas?

(also, completely OT, is it strange that my 800mhz, 256mb box lags in Outrun, some 32x games, NBA Jam TE (mame), etc? i think it may be a sound thing)

I've no idea what <mameconfig version="10"> is, but the {flags=18} part is OK.  Try re-generating the list and try again.

No, that's a pretty slow PC.
