Getting too worked up? (now with more cheesecake)

I dissapeared from this board (EE, not the entire BYOAC site) for a few months during the last presidential election. Things got too heated and it just became less fun. It's been a really fun board for some time since, but things are starting to get ugly again. A significant number of members here are getting a little too worked up and taking what others say too personally and seriously. We've all got our opinions. There's no point in getting mean spirited and resorting to name calling. The hurricane was terrible, what happened in the aftermath is terrible, stabbing babies is terrible. I think we can all agree on those points. I enjoy discussing the finer points to no end, but there's no reason to get POed and start disliking each other because all of our opinions don't align perfectly.

And just so everyone believes that I was the one who started this thread, here's bit of cheesecake:

You know what aviator [sic] I hate?  I can't remember who has it, but it's that little guy from Gremlins....I think his name is gizmo, and he has this retarded look on his face and, for some reason, he looks really old to me.  Anyway, I can't put my finger on exactly what it is that I loath so much about it, but every time whoever it is who uses it posts I am tempted to berate him and tell him to change it, but I always think better of it.  I'm sure that it's my issue, but man I wish he would change his avatar.  It makes me homicidal to even look at it.
