I Can`t launch ArcadeOs in the start up menu?
« on: September 04, 2005, 07:21:36 pm »
I`m struggling here. I`m running ArcadeOs 2.46 Mame 0.36 (nobody will help me with anything newer!) and windows 98. I want the PC to auto boot into ArcadeOs. From the desktop I can run Arcadeos perfectly, but if I drag it into the startup box from the start menu, when the program loads the monitor goes ape and then switches off.

I am under the impression that I can run either a PC or arcade monitor with arcadeos, and although when launched from windows the settings show PC Monitor, I am wondering if it is defaulting to an arcade monitor from the startup menu. If this is the case, where and how do I alter the programs accordingly.

Basically I am running an old P233 with Win 98, and all I want to play is some old vertical space invaders / galaxian type games. If there is not an easy solution to my problem, can someone suggest a very easy to install combination of mame programs and front ends, as most of these forums seem so far advanced, and do not appear to cater for newbies any more who do not understand the jargon and terminology that keeps being used. I have trawled site after site to try to get mame running, but nobody seems to speak in a beginners  language any more - please help !!

I like gamelauncher better than arcadeos for an older computer.  It runs under Windows 98 with a computer monitor just fine.  Check it out at http://www.dribin.org/dave/game_launcher/

Thanks - Looks like a nice front end.

However, although it works just fine when run from a shortcut on desktop, when I put it into the startup folder it also crashes, just like my arcade0s did. I did quickly glance a message that only appeared once that said something along the lines of "Signal Out Of Range" and then the program is minimised to a box on the bottom toolbar and cannot be ressurected. Any further ideas?

Sounds like it's defaulting towards an arcade monitor.  You should be running AOS from DOS anyway.  It's not made to be run in Windows.

You are absolutely right !! Just tried an arcade monitor on it with a perfect picture !!

I was running it in windows as somebody told me thats what I should do to avoid sound issues. Re-configured everything to run on Dos, and works a treat !!

Thanks for everybodies help !!
